Alright...I am a relative 'newbie' to this...I recently purchased an M&P15 MOE & am looking to mount a light on it for hunting purposes. I currently have the light mounted to the barrel...but am quickly realizing that is probably not the best placement due to increased probability of affecting accuracy.

So...I guess my 1st question is...what is the intent of this small picatinny style mount on the bottom side of the front sight intended for!? Could a light be mounted here or would that still affect accuracy!?

My 1st attempt at posting an attached pic too...hopefully there is a pic attached to this posting as well!

Come on...someone has to know what S&W intended this 'mount point' for on these guns! Bi-pod maybe!? Bayonet!? Light!?

Hey OutlawBiz, Magpul sells this mount which is pretty much the same thing for 10 bucks. It can be found at many different online stores as well. You would have to buy a seperate mounting ring or a light with a built in picatinny mount but it seems to give more options.

Attaching anything to the barrel, or so something bolted/attached to the barrel, can induce issues with accuracy and/or POA-POI. If you are concerned, I would suggest a free floating forearm....then you can attach things to it and the barrel will remain untouched.

Go to the Magpul web page. Not only do they have a dedicated light mount kit for the handguard, they make Picatinney rail sections that can be mounted on the handguard. That way you can pimp your AR to your heart's content.
