There have been many threads regarding FTF,and FTEject on the S&W 15-22 as well as fixes for these problems, however I am not having these problems. What I am having is at least 1 and sometime 2 failures to extract in each 25 round magazine. This then results in a "stove pipe" that needs to be cleared. Has anyone else having this problem and is there a fix? Aside from this relatively minor problem I have liked the gun and found it very accurate. Thanks for any responses.

I would check the obvious and make sure the extractor is in the rifle. Also check the fte fix thread.

ive had many 22s ive had to fine tune the extractors... easy way to check of its a mech. problem.. find a empty case(no live ammo) put it in the chamber, remove the mag get a lite and look at the ext. as you pull back on the charging handle see if it full enguages against the wall of the casing before it moves... if it doesnt then you have a interface problem and you can send it back to s&w or modify the ext. to mate up better (can be done with a small file) also remove the extractor and clean well then slightly stretch the sping(this will help put slightly more pressure on the ext.) and reinstall...

what ammo are you running threw it?

Check and see if you extractor is intact. If it is in good shape, it could be one of the following: ejector problem (out of alignment), or low bolt velocity from a low powder charge, lack of lube, improper lube, fouling, or out of spec bolt carrier rails (bent or not parrallel).

I was using both CCI Mini Mags and Winchester Super X HV. The extractor looks normal and of course it only fails 1 out of 20 or so. Thanks for your response.

There is rarely such thing as a Failure to Extract with a blow-back firearm like this.

The case is blown out of the chamber and drives the bolt back with it. That's how blowback works.

The case comes out, you can't stop it unless the bolt only goes back part way or you have a squib load or similar.

You can remove the extractor and the case will still come out. Many small blowback pistols don't even have an extractor. The little Berettas like the .32ACP Tomcat come to mind. These typically stovepipe the last case in the magazine but the case was still "extracted" despite lack of an extractor.

All the extractor is doing on a blowback firearm is holding the case against the bolt or slide face until it strikes the ejector. It's a failure to eject, not to extract, and on the MP15-22 the fix is easy and described above.

The extractor is necessary to hold the case against the bolt until it strikes the ejector in this weapon. No extractor? You'll see the same stoppage but if the case is stovepiped inside the receiver it was extracted (actual extractor or not). In the case of a missing extractor the only current cure is a trip to S&W warranty repair.

chuck is correct

the extractor on a 15-22 and most other blow back guns is used for timing it holds the casing to the bolt till i reaches a certain point for a clear ejection path... this is why the 15-22 has an extractor and ejector... they work together... one hols it in place long enough for the other to do its job...

if you dont feel its needed then remove it and it will stove pipe every round.

i believe stove piping he said was his problem thats why i posted that simple check.. if its not enguaging fully.. then the extractor becomes the ejector and tries to eject way to earily
