Hey all,

First, let me say, I *LOVE* my shield 9. It is by far the most perfect handgun I've ever owned. However, I'm looking for a full size gun for open carry as well with higher capacities. What gun would you say is most similar to the shield? M&P9? just trying to get some opinions.

Seeing how the Shield is a compact, the full size will be quite different.

Similar guns will be the M&P 9c which is a double stack and the 3913 which is all metal.

You won't be swapping mags or anything...

The M&P 9c is a striker fired gun like the Shield. The safeties are a lot different.

As Lost Lake's reply shows, there are many factors when asking what gun is most like the Shield. Do you like the thinness? The style? The features? Carify what you parts of the Shield you want a FS to be similar to and people may be able to help more.

For a full size M&P (if you were to want to go that direction) I can completely recommend the M&P45 full size. Awesome gun, extremely accurate and big holes. :D

Go pick up a FS 9,change around the grips and just see how it feels. You might like the FS-9 or FS-9L. I started from the top and worked down to the Shield. The FS-45 is a bit beefier than the FS 9's but handles extremely well. If you can rent and shoot, that'd be the best way to see what YOU like better.

Since the Shield is nothing more than a smaller M&P, the most similar full size pistol in terms of operation, disassembly, etc. will be the full size M&P in 9mm. Since magazines will not interchange, one thing to consider is to go with a .40 in the full size gun instead of the 9mm.
