Can any owners comment on the performance?
I will speculate it has to do with ending their affiliation with Walther.

I have one I bought about 8 years ago and I don't think I have ever had any problems with it. I haven't shot it in a while, but I still like it. It is the reason that I bought a 9mm Full size a year later.

i had one for several years, with no problems. it had the Walther quality and the accuracy was superior to my capability. i traded it because i was in the process of changing to all hammer fired pistols. am shooting a Sig P250 C in the .22 caliber now.
The full sized model still shows as being available on Smith's website. A 10 round, and a 12 round version, with the only difference between the two being magazine capacity. I have a CA specific model (10 round mag, mag disconnect, non-threaded barrel, even says "MP22 CA" on the slide), which is no longer made. Got it when I still lived in Kommiefornia. I installed a set of Dawson precision FO sights on it, and it is a tack driver. I have had zero issues with it, and mine even eats the ultra crappy Federal Automatch junk......most of the time.
