Fun Day at the Range w 4" 629

Like Mackay said, when shooting REAL long range everything has to be the same every time. If you do the math, hitting that 36"x36" sheet of plywood at 800 yards is the about same as hitting a 1" patch at 25 yards....but with two major factors...trajectory and wind...

If your grip is not the same every time the gun will recoil at a different rate every time so the bullet isn't released from the barrel at exactly the same time each time...the result is vertical stringing...and at 800 yards it can be 200' or more. Ammo will also make a difference...velocity has to be very consistent or the same thing happens....

Windage...you ain't seen nothin' till it starts blowing in Idaho... We would sometimes have to hold off 20-50' into the wind... When you fire it is usually 1.5 seconds for the bullet to get there. Fire, followthrough, look up, see bullet hit....without disturbing the followthrough. Overall however we were very lucky when we shot as it was fairly calm out...

A lot of dry fire practice and ball and dummy at shorter ranges to make sure you are not flinching or moving the gun as the hammer falls is really beneficial...

Good stuff guys, thanks for sharing!
I've been longing (lol) to get out to do some distance shooting.
