We have had the old movie thread, the John Wayne thread, the favorite western thread, and the horrible movie thread. Now it is time for the weird, offbeat, and embarrassingly entertaining funky movie thread. Here are but a few of my favorites:

Big Lebowski
Baghdad Cafe
King pin
Dogma
Repo man
Lust in the dust
Welcome to Woop Woop
Bubba Ho-Tep
Kung fu hustle

Killer klowns from outer space
Ferocious female freedom fighters
A boy and his dog
Zone troopers
Big trouble in little china

I am a fan of "The Big Lebowski". But it took the 2nd viewing before it sank in.

I'm noted for eclectic taste when it comes to movies.

Violence that's simply overboard for the sake of gore doesn't do it for me....YET...I loved the "Grindhouse" series, "Machete" and "Starship Troopers". Like I said...eclectic taste.

Movies I have liked but others generally think were terrible...

"The Gods Must Be Crazy"

"Being There" with Peter Sellers

"Paths of Glory" Stanley Kubrick's WW1 tale. VERY powerful.

"Napoleon Dynamite" as well as "Pee Wee's Big Adventure"

In the old Sci-Fi genre.... "Day the Earth Stood Still" , "Them" , "The Thing" , "Forbidden Planet"

One of my all time favorite movies, an obscure one....one of those; "You either get it...Or Don't" sort of flicks.
"Local Hero" the Scottish film from Bill Forsyth.

ALL my feeble mind can think of for right now.

Any film directed by Terry Gilliam, the following in particular:

Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975)
Time Bandits (1981)
Brazil (1985)
The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (1988)
12 Monkeys (1995)

The following are funky, in the sense of being kind of different or unconventional. The kind of flick that sort of leave you scratching your head….

2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
Catch-22 (1970)
A Clockwork Orange (1971)
ZARDOZ (1974)
Apocalypse Now (1979)
Airplane! (1980)
Repo Man (1984)
Raising Arizona (1987)
Groundhog Day (1993)
Being John Malkovich (1999)
Solaris (2002)

The Magic Christian with Ringo Star and Peter Sellers.
The sinister plot of Dr. Fu Man Chu- Peter Sellers.
Santa Claus Conquers the Martians-Pia Zadora.
The 5000 Fingers of Dr.T

I'm go with Flesh and Bone.
Dennis Quade, Meg Ryan, James Caan, And a few others.
Like Gwyneth Paltrow. First time I ever recall seeing her in a movie. She had a weird part. That is, f you consider stealing jewelry off dead folks at funeral homes weird.
Dennis plays a vender guy who drives around Texas servicing vending machines (and ladies).
He carries around chickens for those chicken dancing machines.
The first time I ever went to Carlsbad cavern, out by the highway at White City, a tourist trap had a dancing chicken machine. You put in some money, music played, The chicken danced. Then she got fed.
Also have a boxing rabbit, he shadowboxed himself looking in the mirror.
I was more impressed by that than I was the cave.

Mel Brooks' "Silent Movie"--definitely offbeat. All the noises and on-screen music were on the soundtrack, but the actors mouthed their lines silently with subtitles.

I have been a fan of "knock Around Guys" since it first came out. Vin Diesel, Barry Pepper and Dennis Hopper. I know it will never make the Academy Awards but for some reason this odd little movie really gets me. I watch it about once a month.

I am captivated by the scene where Diesel mops up a bar in a small town with the town tough guy. That is one hell of a beat down. I doubt anyone could survive that much of a beating in reality.
