Another reason to concealed carry

I always have my pistol with me when I travel in my truck. But when I get out of my truck for some reason I don't like leaving my pistol in there. Why? Because it can get stolen and find its way into the criminal underground. Albuquerque is notorious for its high crime. There are something like 5500 cars stolen there every year. And 400 guns are stolen from cars there every year. So even if my truck doesn't get stolen, there's a good chance it could be broken into. So sticking my pistol (Shield Plus 9mm) into the waist band of my pants (3 o'clock) and covering it with a shirt or jacket, is what I try to do. There are times that it's not legal to do this. Gov't buildings, post offices and bars, for example. So I have a Hornady gun safe with its cable locked under the back seat of my truck. It's a PITA to deal with this, but at least I have a bit of theft protection. If they steal my truck, then they have the gun, too. But that's the best I can do.

Sounds to me like you are reacting reasonably to the situation. (Except the waist-band carry. You will feel stupid when you are walking across the street and your pistol hits the pavement.)

Nice choice of protection. Consider picking up a soft (nylon) holster and putting it on your waist before you leave the house. You won't notice it while driving and it will be there when you get out of your vehicle so no loss of time or added inconvenience.

Or at the very least get something like a Sticky Holster to hold it in place.

(Though a good holster that attaches to your belt would be even better.)

I like my Sticky Holster a lot. Keeps my C.A. Boomer very secure in my pocket.

So I have a Hornady gun safe with its cable locked under the back seat of my truck.

I do have a IWB kydex holster, made by CYA. It hooks to my belt and goes inside my waistband. Everything is covered, incl trigger and magazine release. That little pistol hides very well under my shirt, tucked into my waistband. I also have a J frame .38 but it's a bit fatter and only holds 5 rounds, while the Shield Plus holds 11 with its small magazine, and it hides easier.

The question was asked: what am I trying to communicate with this post? Well, I thot it was pretty obvious, but for clarification, I think that keeping one's pistol on oneself instead of stashed in your car makes it a lot less likely to get stolen. Your car may have a lock on the door, but that doesn't make it very secure. It only takes a couple of seconds to pop the door glass and reach in and unlock the door. Some vehicles, like a pickup truck with a camper on it, are very attractive to thieves. It sure looks like a vehicle that would have a gun stashed in it. My truck and camper have several scars where somebody has tried their screw driver on it.
