That weren’t so funny at the time.

I was 15 or 16. My dad says let’s go for a ride. So off we go. Cooler in the back with lunch.

We go down the highway and turn off on dirt road bordering an Army Reservation. We aimlessly followed the road for several miles and it got worse the farther we went. Had to pull over and lock in the hubs.

A few miles later we approached a clearing and stopped. Then my dad says “oh %#$&@, we gotta get out of here!”

I asked why and he pointed to a sign. I didn’t understand. As we turned around and got out of dodge, he explaied why.

I'm sure there are funny/humorous events which have occurred while you've been at the range. Here is mine. I was sighting in a scoped rifle when a fellow asked if the bench next to me was free. I said it was and he proceeded to start unloading his equipment. His rifle was a new AK47 with a scope mounted on it. As he was setting up he told me that he had just gotten the rifle and this would be the first time he had it to the range. He was also telling me how experienced he was as a shooter.

He load 5 rounds in the magazine and fired them, using the scope. Not too bad as they were all on the lower- left side of the target. He says, "Not bad but adjustment is needed." He then goes into one of his bags and gets out a front site adjustment tool and tweaks the front sight. He fires another 5 rounds into the same area as before and again he does more adjustment to the front sight. He repeated the firing and the same results occurred and more front sight adjustment. I just watched and didn't say anything because he was such an “experienced shooter". After the fourth sting of shots with the same results and front sight adjustment, he packed up all of his stuff and was going to take this #%@&* inaccurate rifle back to the gun store. I just wished him good luck and chuckled as he walked away.

You should have explained to him that you have to adjust a front sight the opposite from the way a rear sight is adjusted.

Was the goofball looking through the scope? Sounds like oldtimers disease.

While in college I worked in a student run tv station, with local cable access. We were producing a show on how to dress as a "professional" for the job market. We had a manager of a men's clothing store come in and do a stand up to the camera something along the lines of how to dress on a budget etc. Problem was his head was throwing a bad shadow on the background behind him. I told him to take a break while I fixed the lighting. He walked off the set over to the tv monitor where I was standing and said the shadow was gone now, can we continue.

I nearly bit a hole in my lip to keep from laughing.

Sister Louise's Mission

Just before my FIL's recent passing, we discovered he and my MIL had a funny coincidence from their youth.

When my FIL was 13 and hanging out on the streets of Manhattan with his friends, a Catholic Sister in full habit, Sister Louise, asked them if they had been Baptized and Confirmed. They had not, and the Sister marched them away and signed them up for lessons leading to the Sacraments, which they all received. Even the tough street urchins of that time knew to respect Priests and Sisters.

My FIL from about that age:

A few years later, Sister Louise knocks on the door of my MIL's Manhattan apartment, and asks her mother if she had been married in the church. When informed their marriage was only a civil one, she wants to get them married in the church.

Informed that her husband works nights and is still sleeping, Sister Louise marches to their bedroom and enters. My grandfather-in-law, who was very formal and old-fashioned, wakes to a Catholic Sister in full habit in his bedroom. He covered up as much as he could and pulled the sheet up to his nose.

From under the sheets, he politely agreed to the Sister's request that they get married in the Catholic Church, even though as a member of the Masonic Order, he was excommunicated.

A couple of years later, the Priest that married her parents was the same Priest that married my FIL and MIL.

My grandfather-in-law and mother-in-law from that time:

He had assured me that he was an "experienced shooter" and knew all about guns, shooting and sighting in a scope.

Yes, he was using the scope for all of the shots. He was a "know it all youth" and when I did make a suggestion, it was immediately dismissed because he said he knew what he was doing so I just left him alone.

LEO I shot IDPA with shared one night that after a shoot he stopped at a local bar. Guy came in and sat next to him and made small talk and asked him if he wanted to buy "a gram"?. LEO said "sure". Guy says "I'll be back"
Leaves & come backs in with brown paper bag tells him $80 bucks.
LEO hands him $, guy hands him bag. The bag was real heavy.
LEO looks in bag turns out it was it was a GRENADE.
Guy was arrested.

My Grandfather “Pap” was a stern man. Never mean to me or my family, just not “fun”. Apparently he suffered from bad migraines when he was younger. When he had them he’d go to bed, close the door, close the curtains and everybody in the house had to be quiet.
One day my Dad (a young boy then) came home to find Pap in bed with a migraine. Dad decided that since Pap wasn’t feeling well he’d cheer him up by showing off the jar full of spiders Dad had caught, only problem the spiders weren’t doing much. Dad decided he’d get them moving by shaking the jar. The lid came off and dumped the spiders over Pap and the bed.
I don’t think there’s a jury in the world that would have convicted Pap.
