A few weeks ago when the thread about Ballistol came up (as I posted then, I am not going to tolerate that smell), a bunch of people mentioned G96 Gun Oil, among others. I knew I had another box somewhere that I had not unpacked yet since we moved and I did find it in my workshop the next day. In that box were a bunch of additional gun oils - yup, I've got a lifetime supply, two being a spray can of G96 as well as a 4 oz. bottle. I just started using it again and I forgot how damned great it smells! I have used it in the past and always had good luck with it, but for some reason it was always on the back of the shelf and I'd forget to use it.

Well now that I've found it, I've used it for a week and love the smell. I will not need to use cologne anymore - lol! All I have to do is oil a gun, knife or what ever and I'm good for the evening - lol!! :D Even Mrs. Chief38 like it. :)

Kind of reminds me of the Marvel Mystery Oil - love the smell of that too.

I've been using G96 since probably the 70's. I use it on all my firearms. It's great stuff and a large spray can lasts a loooooong time. I'm surprised not a lot more firearm enthusiasts seem to know about this stuff!

In general, I prefer the 4 oz. bottle. Aerosols are difficult to control pin point drops and spray all over things not intended to coat. The spray would be good for large areas though.

When I was a youngster, my Grampa would take me to Midaughs' Gun Shop here. An old fashion shop where the patrons would spend hours hanging out, drinking coffee, and telling tales. To this day I have fond memories of the shop, and the odor of cigar smoke and Hoppes # 9.

To me it smells.like bubblegum lol...

Very pleasant smell IMO...
Thats exactly what I said about it. Phht, OldSpice? Who needs OldSpice when they have G96.

I love the smell, and its great on firearms too.

The reason the OP's was in a box hidden away is because it doesnt have the snazzy advertising and isnt the latest and greatest, except,it is.

Ever since my old time "FAV" was discontinued a long while ago (Rig #2 Gun Oil), I became sort of an unofficial tester or gun oil "junkie". I embarked on a gun oil buying spree and like trying the ones that have escaped me. I don't even know how many I have, along with many penetrating oils, greases, solvents, etc. I've got shelves and boxes of the stuff (a "sub-hobby I guess) and sometimes a few just get pushed to the back like the G96 did. There are times after reading a thread or post I will seek out a few I sort of forgot about and bring then to the front of the large shelf. This particular one, G96 is rapidly "tickling my fancy" and I think will remain in the front row now.

Some that I no longer use, like or want have been given away, used for general purpose lubrication, rust preventatives, etc. on non firearms items. The guy who I gave the 3 new bottles of Ballistol too is a happy camper - guess his olfactory senses are not working or his feet sweat a lot and he's used to it - LOL! :D :D

I l8ke the smell of Ballistol. Great stuff that won't cause cancer if ya get a little on ya.
