I've attempted probably a dozen attempts at watching those things. I ended up screaming at my computer screen at almost all of them. 😅

I do worry about the novices who use youtube as a reference, though. The rookies won't know what's good & what's hogwash, IMO.

Once in a while when taking apart a new to me firearm, for a thorough cleaning and inspection. Disassembly and assembly can be a task without a manual or instruction.

I find the answer to those questions within minutes. Guess I'm good at weeding out the trash.

They help me so I don't scream at my new gun.

Here's where we part ways in how we think.

*I* would NEVER buy a gun with no manual or instructions w/o first having someone show me how to field strip it. Don't care what it is, before I take ownership, someone is going to fieldstrip it right in front of me.

Last year, I detail stripped my Desert Eagle .357mag for oiling. During reassembly, I could NOT get the firing pin to seat at ALL. I spent 45min+ on the !@#$%^&* thing before I just laid it down & called it quits for the day. Went back to it the next day & discovered it needed to have the safety "on" in order to allow the firing pin to seat. No other gun I own is like that. I did look at youtube videos & they were NO help at all in resolving this. I think I looked at 4-5 of them, all of them looked & sounded like Forrest Gump were doing them, IMO.

Lastly, I never scream at my guns. I scream at the idiots making those asinine youtube videos. Huge difference.

Break free is far better than transmission fluid for any use on guns.

Maybe, I don't know.

I know some of the race gun guys use it for lube when they shoot matches. All the best lubes these days are synthetics. I use Lucas gun oil for lubing my guns but not as a preservative due to cost.

I spent 30 years as a mechanic, my dad was a machinist and watch maker, his brother was a watch maker.

Mechanical skills are second nature. Don't need a manual to buy a gun. Most used guns don't come with them.

I looked up the Dessert Eagle disassembly, the first clip I found described the firing pin and safety position. 1 minute it took.

We are different.

I can't help wondering why you didn't get your manual out to see how the firing pin went back in?

Here is a PDF copy for you to use next time you strip it.

Desert Eagle Manual

According to Desert Eagle the safety should be in the fire position, but I've never had a desire to own or handle one, so it is what it is.

If you click the image it should get larger.
