I was thinking about getting a Whisper.. pest control and cheap fun for me and the kids.
Any thoughts or anyone bought one yet?
.177 for speed or .22 for thump?
Are the extras worth it? (lazer lite etc)
Accuracy?

Thanks in advance

I can't say anything about that model, but I can say Gamo rifles are top quality. I bought the one w-scope/light/laser and it is a blast. With those gold Gamo pellets you are almost talking 22LR performance.

They are, but we can't all fire our guns in our yards without a visit from the PD.

That's the beauty of the Whisper! I would love to have one.

Unfortunatly, my State AG has ruled that the Whisper constitutes a silencer under state law.

I purchased one this year for pest control in .177. It's fairly well built for the price and works well for pest control and backyard fun shooting. The one I purchased came with a scope that I have not found a need to mount yet as the iron sights work pretty well for the distances I'm shooting.

I think the 'silencer' thing is a bit of a marketing gimmick myself. It may indeed make the rifle report quieter at the pest/target end of the shot but it does nothing to quiet the loud 'Twang' of the spring mechanism when the shot goes off.

It's been a long time since I've shot any of the quieter .22 rimfire rounds (can't remember the name, colibri?) but I would be curious if the spring air rifles are really quieter than these when fired from a bolt action 22 rifle.

This thread is about air rifles. They are commonly available in .177, .20 and .22 caliber. Larger calibers are also made, but not by Gamo.

I have the Gamo Viper with scope, not the Whisper, but I swear by them.

They're outstanding for plinking in the yard and keeping the varmints in check.

I'm very pleased with the materials and workmanship.

You may be surprised at the noise they will make.
That pellet is supersonic and it will have quite a crack which will alert your neighbors.
I use a 20+" barrel .22 with Aquilla Super Colobris/
They are very quiet and will give a squirrel a dirt nap at 40 yards if you give it a head shot.
The Whisperer will be more accurate than the .22 at 40 yards, But alot louder.

When I was looking for an air rifle I fired the Whisper and really didn't think it was much if any quieter than the Gamo Hunter model which I ended up buying. Super nice air rifle and a blast to shoot. They are louder than you might think.

Here is my target, shoulder held, with 10 shots fired at 50 feet with iron sights...right out of the box. Pretty accurate little rifle.

Be sure to check your local laws, as many area's list a air gun with velocity >1000fps as a "firearm" and may have restrictions where it may be used.

I have an RWS in .177 and the cocking force is 36 lbs. Not easily handled by youngsters.

I've discovered with my RWS Model 34, if I just crack the sliding windows about an inch or two, I can use at the table on my porch as a benchrest and nobody hears nothin'!!
