Can someone tell me why the new 640 Black is wider than the 640 in stainless. Otherwise the size seems identical.
I think I want one but will need a new holster if it is wider.

I would have to go with it being a typo. There is no way that simply having black cerakote makes an identical gun .4" wider than the bare stainless model. Any holster for the 640 Pro will fit the 640 Black just fine. Smith and Wesson (and all gun makers for that matter) are not above getting specs wrong from time to time. 1.7" width, which it lists, is the same as a Model 629 N-Frame. Even the 686+ L-frame is only 1.55".

The Model 10 Classic No-Lock is 34.6 ounces, according to the website, and I was happily surprised to find out that mine weighs exactly 31 ounces, so under 2lbs. But with the standard and the Pro 640's both listing 1.3" width, the 640 black will be no different.
