Just picked up my new Shield 9mm and the only thing that I see that I don't really care for is the gap between the mag floor plate and the bottom of the grip. It is probably a little over a 1/16th of an inch. Got it with both the 7 and 8 round mags so at least it's consistent. Is it just my pistol or do all the Shields have this gap. Not a deal breaker for me. I've wanted the Shield for quite a while now and finally was able to get one. It's just the OCD in me that questions this gap.

Does it look like this? I also wondered about it when I got mine and I did a search on Google Images and saw quite a few that looked like mine. I assumed it was because mine is loaded to Max

There was a claim with the Walther PPS that this gap is on purpose so you do not pinch your finger during a reload. Not a problem with full sized pistols as your finger would not hand past end of grip, but is an issue with compact pistols.

You actually need that little extra space, you see when you slam that mag in it needs that space to travel upwards to engauge the mag lock into place, then the spring pushes the mag back down on the mag retention slots. It pushes by the lock then back down and locks the tab to mag. Its fine.

I took a black magic marker to my mags to cover the silver on the mags.

That is it exactly. Nice to know mine isn't defective after all. Thanks for posting the pic and easing my mind. Off to the range tomorrow to shoot it for the first time. Can't wait.
