Do deer eat asparagus plants, specifically mule deer.
Wanting to start an asparagus bed, but have lots of deer around.

I have a fairly good-sized asparagus bed just south of the mule barn. And while we do have mule deer in the orchard and pastures occasionally, they've never seemed to bother the asparagus.

The only problem with growing your own asparagus is that the store bought stuff never tastes right again. Like all vegetables, the ones you grow taste best. My grandfather has been gone nearly 40 years, and I still miss all the fresh vegetables from his farm. The best tomatoes, asparagus, green beans, corn, cabbage, lettuce, radishes, carrots, cucumbers and broccoli that I will ever have. And could he ever grow flower gardens.

NOT JUST DEER.

My dogs got to them first. :( Just wipe the dirt off & eat them direct from the ground. No need to even cook them. Plant a much larger bed than you think you will need.
