I had to buy a new point-n-shoot camera today (the 2yr old grandson is hard on cameras)...took it out of the box and was surprised at how much better it works than the one now down and out.

Kicked out a couple quick shots and was amazed at how well this camera makes me look like I know how to take a pic!

Here's what's happening with the garden...

Onions, Lettuce, Sweet Corn, Beets, Tomatoes, Cucumbers, Watermelon, Banana Peppers, Jalapeno Peppers, Chili, Thyme(s), Basil(s)...should be a great haul this entire summer.

The Tomatoes are going wild!

The entire east side is over-run with cucumbers and watermelon...

We took 5 and 1/2 gallons of cucumbers out of the garden this morning...shared with a friend.

A couple nice melons with untold numbers to follow...the water bill!!

Sweet Corn...YUMMY...we've been eating "roastin' ears" for three days...tonight, tomorrow...maybe Tuesday should be it for the sweet corn...so far the hot wires have kept the wabbits and 'coon at bay.

It's impossible to describe the first taste of a homegrown tomato with a little cottage cheese and salt 'n pepper...just too good to describe. I took the first red tomato off the vine on July 10th...untold numbers will soon fill the kitchen (and our friends' kitchens).

We are extremely grateful for the bounty...and say a prayer each and every meal...

We also like the electric fence!!

Let's see your patch of earth!

An electric fence for mammals (small ones).

Seven dust once early on (will follow up with some more this week to keep a step ahead of the aphids.

Dawn dish soap sprayed through a sprayer with H2O.

That's all so far.

Hope to avoid problems with as few applications as possible.

Bob,

Not that I'm the least bit jealous....or nothin'...with what, say 13" of rain and no sun up here last month...and everything planted rotting on the vine...

God, I hate you....:D

Hey Bob!

Do you mind if I stop by with a sharp knife and a pepper shaker? LOL!!!

GREAT looking garden! I can appreciate the time and effort.

Thanks for all the kind remarks...

Sometimes we get nice rains and sunny weather, sometimes we don't. This has been a pretty nice spring/summer so far.

I'm just darn lucky to have Karli around to manage the garden's schedule and keep me on track.

She's been in Albuquerque for nine days visiting her daughters and grandson (can we say work). She got home yesterday afternoon.

This morning after working hard at picking a HUGE container full of Blackberries, she spent the balance of the morning in the garden...weeding and harvesting corn, cucumbers, tieing off "outlaw" tomato branches & harvesting a few ripe tomatoes (she was also probably fixing stuff I messed up while she was gone).

Then, she made time to "wear out" Jazper, the "range dog"...then, well she was pooped out and took a well deserved break...I like having her around!!

Great job. My tomato plants are doing great but the squirrels are getting far more than we are. Can't hunt them in the city with a real gun and I'm not that good with my pellet gun.

How does the electric fence work? Think it would keep squirrels out?

Nice garden (where's the okra?)! Beautiful wife and a good looking dog. You're doing well, my good man...

Awesome garden. You guys do good work! :)

From a strictly female point of view, I think I'd definitely doublecheck with the wife and see if she minds you posting a picture of her ass right out there for millions to see. :o My husband better sleep with one eye open if he did that to me.

Will know she got it when see the new set of pics with Bob all bandaged up....:D:D:D

That is a great garden, however I have been there and done that over the years and I know for a fact how much work the two of you put into that patch. You deserve every morsel that you put into your mouths.;)

Many thanks...

doublesharp,
I suspect you will do well with the fence as long as the tree-rats are unable to jump in from a nearby tree...it that's the case, I'd suggest you invest in a nice quiet Gamo air rifle.

Dixie,
Point taken, but I have to admit, I did send her a link, but she had not opened her mail so I'll take your advice and remove the picture...thanks for the head's up.

bmhiii,
My wife and I while add Okra next year...we both enjoy the slimy stuff! We buy it from a local gardener.

giz,
You just have to remember...what goes around!!! :-0

ingmansinc,
I must admit that I'm new to gardening...we were married 5 years ago and it was about 4 years ago when we started the yearly event...I have hauled (so has Karli...even more-so) plenty of decomposed horse manure up from the neighbors house in yearly attempts to get the soil broken down (clay) and up to speed....we also try to hit as many seminars as possible and listen to friends like you.

Bob, I'm from the south and can't get enough okra. Decided to let my small garden lay fallow this year and am in an okra jones. Okra is all I plant except for a couple of red bell pepper plants. If you haven't got a particular kind in mind, I suggest Clemson Spineless. I've tried quite a few and it's the best, to me.

Where are you in KC? I'm in Blue Springs... I think I've asked this before but my mind just ain't what it used to be... I think.:p

Barry,
We're in Smithville. Thanks for the tip on Okra. You need to come up and shoot with us sometime! Our range is kinda fun with lots of steel bells, spinners & a plate rack to boot.

You going to the gun show this weekend?

Bob

Did someone say garden?

In the 2nd pic, you can see my GF... way down toward the other end.
