Gas check use, 357

Like gwpercle I've shot a ton of plain based lead bullets . Especially the Keith designed 358429 . Flat base & if sized to fit gun , with good lube & BHN 11-12 alloy pushed 1500 fps with very minor leading . 1200 - 1300 in larger bore magnums .

I shoot 38, 357, 357 Max and 357 in rifles. I save my gas checks for the latter two when pushed hard.

I shot 500mag max H110 loads using 400gr Missouri bullets without gas checks. Cleaned with a few jacketed copper rounds.

Went to the range today with my first few 2400 loads. Missouri 158g coated LSWCs.

Some 38Sp. These had enough recoil in the steel 60 that I know I could never shoot them in anything lighter. Left a little haze in the barrel but not too bad. These had a moderate crimp and the fifth one lengthened about .005" over four shots.

Some 13.5g 357, characterized by Skeeter as "medium" and by me as "Ow!" Heavy crimp and no pull at all. And... barrel was clean as a whistle afterwards!

Big flash and bang, more than Power Pistol.

Primary lesson learned: I need a 686.
