Some time back there was a thread about the new gas containers...Several folks were able to modify them to act just like the old ones...No one ever said how they done it!!! I'd sure like to have that info posted so I can fix mine...
TIA...

Okay, I'll bite. How did the old ones act.
Mine are all new, so I don't let them act out.

I don't know how to modify the new ones. I got lucky and bought several old style right before the legal action outlawing their manufacture. I guard them like gold. The new style are terrible, as could be expected from something legislated into existence.

I don't know how far I can go without getting into trouble here but there is a company that makes an ez pour spout. It's actually illegal in many states but can be sold to retro fit older cans but also fits new ones, they give you a vent that requires a hold to be drilled in the new cans that don't have a vent. I use them on every can and haven't spilled a drop since.

The EPA in their zeal to save the planet and not allow a gas can to vent they have created a spout that pours more gas on the ground than ends up in the tank. How is that good? I don't know.

My cans were good but the old spouts had broke. I bought old style replacement spouts at Tractor Supply. I also bought a couple of new cans and old style replacement spouts for them. Larry

I have one that is like the can in the video with the switch that he pulled out with the needle nose pliers. It's ok compared with the spring loaded type you have to push on to make work. I don't own any more of them.

The old ones worked well, lasted many, many years and were very inexpensive.

The new ones are awkward to use, leak like a sieve, are lucky to last six months, and cost twice as much. The only way to make the public use them was to require it by legislative action. Yet another example of how well our representative government functions. The only real question is how such absurd and insane legislation gets pushed through congress. I can think of only one way.

Just cut the spout off with a hand saw about 2" from the can and hose clamp on some thick walled flexible tubing, that's what the farmers around here do.

Use a small piece of plastic sack and some rubber bands for a cap.

Aloha,

I kept my old Evinrude outboard motor gas tanks and the rare pouring spout that was available for them.

I also have new inused older gas tanks.

All are kept just in case of hurricane or tsunami.

I had one of the non venting gas cans under the carport. One day I looked at it and was all swollen up like a watermelon. Cracked the coupling to belled off the pressure in the can. Then when it turns cold the same can actually shrinks or partially collapses. Frank

I have a trumpet shaped funnel, I remove the entire spout and pour into the funnel. Works great, biggest problem is when it is raining! Ivan
