New Hats for some revolvers…

Hi folks,

Spring is new Hat Season here, time to get some for my S&Ws.

What hats? The little hats in the boxes that get lost during handling!



Some call them thimbles, some call them inserts, in this thread we will call them hats until corrected by the experts.

I was missing a few hats, in addition to a few marbles, so I had my friend with a 3d printer make up a few. I think they came out great.

Fitment is great, and I was able to finally ‘complete’ a couple of revolver packages. After playing around with a bit of sandpaper to blend the print marks, I used some acetone and a rag to melt them smooth for a better appearance. They are a bit stiffer than OEM, but I feel a decent replacement for a part that is NLA - No Longer Available!

I am fortunate that my box came with the original hat. While a cardboard box might not mean much to some, I treasure mine and dig the retro repeating REVOLVER script on the box, it is peak 80ś.

Revolvers that were marketed in the one-piece clamshell boxes came with these, from about 1982 until late in the 90’s.

Good stuff! I collect 3RD GEN Smith auto's and know what these are..LOL. Nothing bums me out more than getting a like new 3RD GEN and having everything but this in the box.
