I came home from a recent gun show with a 22 conversion unit by Advantage Arms, Inc, for the Glock 19. Instructions say not to use it on Gen 4s. I don't have a Gen 4 but wonder what is different about them that a conversion unit wouldn 't work on them?

I believe there is a different frame or slide geometry between the gen 4s and the preceding generations.

The gen4 is different from all the others. The recoil spring is way different in design so is the housing. The barrels interchange and the sights do aswell but that is it.

Can't speak for all of the possible differences but I do know the recoil spring is different making the slide different. But that is why Advantage Arms makes if VERY clear with their conversion kits for Gen 4 versus pre Gen 4.

I have been thinking of getting one of those for my Gen 4 Glock 19. All that I have read is positive for the kit. Enjoy.

A quick google search didn't turn up much. Apparently it's not the slide but the cut in the barrel for the captured recoil spring assembly that's different. On Glock talk many report mixing parts with no ill effects but as you'd imagine Glock says no. This question has given me something to do today!

Mine is for the pre Gen 4, and luckily I have one of them. I've put almost 200 rounds down range with it, mostly shooting at tin cans. and they have to get 'way out there before you can't hit them any more. It's great fun. Haven' cleaned it yet and have no problems so far. Be sure to use just CCI Mini Mags for reliable functioning. I tried CCI Green Tag, and both Federal and Winchester bulk pack and none had enough energy to operate the slide reliably.
