I hope I am starting this in the right section of the forum. I just read an article about Gen. Lemay and bombing Tokyo. It made me want to learn more about Gen. LeMay. Looking on the internet I see several biographies and the General's autobiography. Does anyone here have any thoughts on a good book about Gen. Lemay? Thanks for any advice.

I can't advise you about books, but by coincidence, an episode of The Pacific War in Color that aired on the Smithsonian Channel earlier this evening went into pretty good detail about LeMay and his plans to bomb Tokyo. It was really interesting.

The episode is titled "Fire From the Sky", and will be broadcast again on March 14, if you get the Smithsonian Channel. Click here to see a brief preview. I believe there are several different ways you can view the episode.

Recommend “Blanket’s Of Fire” by Kenneth P. Werrell. It covers MajGen C. LeMay, and the XXI Bomber Command’s strategic bombing of Japan using the B-29 Superfortress. MajGen LeMay figures prominently in the book as it was mostly his plan and his execution of the plan.

I am also looking to read a book on LeMay
I would suggest one that covers his earlier life as well
He accomplished some interesting aviation things
Before WW2 and during his time with the 8th

This information was released about 10-15 years ago. General LeMay's plan for the invasion of Japan was to carpet bomb Japan before the invasion with Mustard Gas, Phosgene, and Hydrogen Cyanide. He was not one to play around.

A Torch to the Enemy is an account of the firebombing of Tokyo. Read it a very long time ago, but recall it being a quick and good read.
