General Model 10 Question

Looking at different Model 10s from different times on GB, and none of the ones I saw had recessed cylinders, no matter the year of manufacture. Was this omitted because .38 Special is not really a high-pressure cartridge, or for some other reason? Another reason I am asking is because I have an old hand ejector (not sure which variation) in 32/20, and although I haven't examined it in a long time, I THINK it has recessed cyliners on it.

I think only magnums and rimfires are recessed. The experts will soon be along to verify.

I have Model 10's and .38 M&Ps from 1914 through 1990 and none have recessed cylinders.

Thanks. I just looked at some hand-ejectors similar to mine on GB, and none had recessed cylinders. Mine doesn't either, I am guessing.

S&W only recessed the cylinders on magnum and rimfire cartridges. The Magnums started in 1935. The rimfire, no idea. One of the antique +/or rimfire gurus can fill in that date.

Neither the .38 M&Ps nor the .32-20 K frames had recessed cylinders.

I know of no K-frames other than .22s having recessed chambers. At least with modern ammunition, recessed chambers serve no purpose.

You are forgetting the Combat Magnum (including the Model 19 up until 1982).

I'd say that a Model 10 with a cylinder that has recessed chambers is a Model 10 that is no longer a 38 Special, but is a Model 10 that someone tried to convert into a Model 13. One caveat would be a batch of about 3200 Model 10-6's that were factory made 357's. These were the precursors to the introduction of the Model 13. From what I understand, all of these were produced in the "D" prefix serial number range.
