Georgia Guidestones blasted this morning

I had never heard of this thing, but it seems to be very controversial. Does anyone from the area know more?
A Georgia monument, seen by some as satanic, was damaged from a predawn explosio : NPR

Read the article you have linked and you should find the answer to your question. Possibly the recent SCOTUS decision re: Roe v Wade was the trigger as alluded to in that article. Lots of radical nuts on the loose!

There was a TV special about these on a few years ago, they have always been quite controversial.

I'm glad it's gone, but the dismantling afterward happened so quickly it seems like it was all pre-coordinated. Maybe someone just wanted to draw attention to it. Heck, maybe they were erected specifically for someone to blow up so there could be a "mean extremist" narrative and a "poor victim" narrative. Yes, I'm a cynic.

I live in Senoia, GA and I've heard they were originally erected by the KKK, if so, good riddance. There ain't nothing ancient about them.

News is making a big deal about people believing it was satanic, but I'm pretty sure the bombing was anti-globalist rather than religious in intent.

Meh. It was a mix of pretentious messaging, ranging from Malthusian desires to global government to hippy communal trash, all of which would only appeal to the shallowest of observers.

The message of the stones is not one I support, but my absolute attitude towards free speech doesn't much care for it being blown up either..

...I've heard they were originally erected by the KKK...
The text on the stones was inconsistent with KKK philosophy. Population control, environmentalism, global government, racial diversity, multiculturalism, pacifism, atheism.
Amazing how people will repeat old wive's tales for years when it takes 30 seconds on the internet to learn the facts.

I'll entertain the theory as we are accustomed to lengthy investigations before the cleaning crew gets a turn
Boom to broom in the same day raises an eyebrow

Supposedly the demolition of the entire structure was immediately performed for reasons of safety. But looking at pictures of the structure post-explosion, it seems that most of it appears lightly damaged, only one pillar out of four seemed affected, the other three looked OK. It is not obvious why there was any good safety-related reason to completely demolish what remained so quickly. The video of the car involved in the bombing was fairly clear, but I wonder if there will be as much interest in quickly identifying the car and the bombers in it. I suspect not.

thought the same .... seemed a call to tape it off and let a team collect evidence kind of result. It's not like 19 foot slabs are going to go on a rampage through a quiet community.
Given its reputation, I suppose some are glad to be rid of it, but still ... It seems a good measure of due diligence was skipped

The Elberton Granite Association, which maintained the Georgia Guidestones said the monument was nothing but a tourist attraction. Sometimes billed as the “American Stonehenge,” the four slabs and central pillar functioning like a compass, calendar and clock, drew visitors from around the world.

As small as they are, Elberton and Elbert County will likely miss the tourism dollars generated.

A former gubernatorial candidate called them “satanic” and promised to destroy them, if elected, by executive order. Religious extremists of any stripe are reprehensible. Any righteous God would condemn Westboro Baptists and ISIS to the same lower pit in hell.

I find it interesting that some people don't care if some one blows up stone tablets with a message on them. But, being a betting man I would lay good money that a lot of the same people would be in an uproar if it was some other stone tablets. This is America, everyone has a right to speak, write and display their message.

Might speak for myself, but its the message they held that I never cared about. Method of disposal .... that's a little different.
I guess it had a few party tricks engineered into it ... what it wished to convey fell far short of a work like say ... the desiderata or high flight. Perhaps even trailing the Jabberwocky which aimed to be nothing at all.

Go placidly among the noise and haste.
