Well our town is getting a Dicks Sporting Goods. It is going into an empty space when a large retailer Mervyns closed up a year ago. Not having one around was wondering on what they are like? What they usually carry in the store? Price? Thanks for your input.

Chinese-made sporting goods at full retail prices.

Shotgun ammo for clay-bird shooting is usually fairly priced.

Watch out for exclusions on firearms-related items with any discount coupon.

$$$ At Dick's

You will learn the true meaning of the phrase " Retail Pricing"

Best,
Gary

I have shopped them before. We had one move in here a couple years ago. They carry a lot of foreign items, are over priced and seldom have what you would want.

They carry long guns but no upper end guns.

Their stores are clean, roomy and sales people are nice enough.

I bought a nice treadmill from them, a case of ammo, a set of ear protectors and a pair of tennis shoes. Any of the items could have been bought cheaper elsewhere.

Consider them to be an upscale Academy Sports.

the one by me only sells shotguns, very very limited with handgun ammo. also they are pricey through out the store.

Dick's does not sell handguns. When they first came to town here, I ran over and was very disappointed. The guy at the gun counter appeared very PO'D when I asked why no handguns. He said "they aren't worth the trouble to sell". The only thing I buy there is ammo when they run a good sale.

OIher than the occasional ammo sale, no reason to go, unless you want to buy workout clothes at the highest price available. The stores here are two floors. First floor tennis shoes and clothes. Second floor everything else (kayaks, camping, etc.). Gun section no bigger than WalMart.

I have a Dick's near me. They are always out of the common calibers of ammo or their prices are way too high.
Not a good store for gun related items.
They have a lot of clothing and other sport related items. All their prices on everything can be beaten.
I rarely shop there.

Wandered into one in a mall one time when I was forced to go with my wife. Had never heard of it before. As said above it was on two levels.
If you think of the whole store as 10' x 10', the sporting goods covered an area 1/2" x 1/2", with fishing 90% of that. The rest was clothes.
Why do they call them sporting goods when all they sell is overpriced chothes?

We have a HUGE store in our area.

When it opened, I expected to see a tremendous variety of goods in such a large retail space. Rather than that... you see 10 feet of shelves with hundreds of the same running shirt or other items.

The guns and ammo section is OK but not much more than "OK".

It's always hard to find somebody to help in that department and the prices are not great. I buy most of my range ammo at Walmart.

Oh yeah, and don't ask the clerks a question unless you want to waste breath and time. The only ammo I ever would buy for them was 00 buck for my 12 gauge pump. Everything else, way too expensive. Plus, I would rather go to a gunshop where I could talk to the guy behind the counter, and he knows guns like I do.

Like Wal Mart...some good stuff...some bad stuff. Some good prices...some not so good. The one I visit opened the doors with a fair sized gun and shooting supply inventory, but again like WalMart, the computers only restock the items that sell well for that location and the gun inventory soon dwindled to very little variety. It doesn't take the computers very long to adjust inventory to local demographics. The only attraction to me now, is the occasional ammo sale.

Pretty much sums it up.

More of a high priced clothing, sports equipment golf stuff store. We have one close to the Gigantic Bass Pro. How it stays in business I have no idea.
Prices are reDickulus.:D

We have a Dick's Sporting Goods and Bass Pro very close to one another. They carry some of the same items. It pays to shop around. I bought some ammo boxes at Dick's. They were one dollar cheaper, each, at Dick's. They have good prices on CCI Standard Velocity ammo, too. Much of the merchandise at Bass Pro and Dick's is overpriced. Dick's usually has a big selection of high end shoes. Their prices are the same as everyone else, even on-line.

Several of them in Pittsburgh... good selection of workout stuff and ball sports type stuff. Prices not great, but at market on stuff like that.

Useless for gun related items other than specials on clay busting shotgun shells.
