Getting more accuracy????

Thanks for all the info so far...I am hearing some really good ideas and thoughts. I understand and agree completely about ammo and shooters so lets assume we already have the most accurate possible ammo and are shooting from a Ransom rest so the shooter or human element is gone. Remember, time and money is no object...you just have to end up with the most accurate your revolver can be.

Custom barrels are what comp shooters go for to get the best accuracy, but unless you shoot for a living and have perfect ammo, you will not see the difference. I have stock 66's that can shoot 1" groups at 25 yards with cheap ammo. How much improvement could a new barrel give me over that? Maybe 1/4 inch?

The 10-14 had a spring replacement, has a near perfect trigger pull.....the 64-7 is stock, with stock (i.e. heavy) mainspring and rebound spring. I shot both yesterday in single and double action, and hardly saw a difference. In SA they shot nearly identical groups, only in DA did the "worked" gun shine only because the lighter pull allowed me to stay on target better.

A very skilled revolver shooter (not me, at least not yet) can shoot very, very well with a S&W or Ruger revolver that has been untouched out of the box. I even have some Ruger Service Sixes that shoot very well in DA and they are 100% stock.

Many people spend good money having their revolvers "worked over" for very little gain in practical, usable accuracy.
