Been deer hunting since I was 16 years old. Up until today I have never missed & every deer has been 1 shot =1 for the freezer & have harvested a deer every year for 52 years.
Today I missed. Thank goodness it was not wounded.
Beautiful 8 pointer eastern count about 160lbs .
Guess my winning streak has ended.

Do you have evidence of this miss? No! Then in my book it didn't happen, go and miss no more!

Seriously, please continue to thin the herd!

There's always a "silver-lining" ... if you look for it. Your silver-lining, as I see it, is you get to start a new no-miss streak and still fill your freezer every year.

As I get older my philosophy (got it from my dad) is too keep
hunting and keep moving, keep doing all the things I enjoy for as long as possible.....that's what keeps us young in our mind and heart.:)

BTW....just doing the math based on your post we are the same age and we both live in E. Tn.:) Howdy.

Good news and bad news there: Bad news is you missed for the first time. Good news is you get to try again.

If you didn't hear/see the drone then you are good. Rock on! There is always next season.

I like the way you think.
I did NOT miss. It was Divine Intervention.
We have a rule here 6 point or better. Unless it is a youngster.
Seeing how the buck was traveling behind 2 does & he had a perfect symmetrical large rack, God wanted his genes to be passed on thru out the herd. The day before I counted 17 does.
It was faulty ammo.

I feel much better now.

I like this kind of thinking, for me every large fish that gets away is " it was just a carp anyway".....:D

My 2¢ worth.

I sympathize with you, but have an even sadder story to tell. From the time that I became old enough, in the 1940 era, I wanted, and prepared to go deer hunting.

I acquired a rifle, built it into a beautiful, scoped, Reinhart Fadgen, stocked, brush rifle, as I intended to hunt in PA.

Every year since then, my plans have been thwarted, by some family need.

Now, since I'm no longer able to shoot firearms, my chance to hunt deer, using my hand crafted rifle, will never take place.

Be thankful for your blessings.

I hope you have a family member or someone in your life who is like family to you who would appreciate something like this and give it a good home.

Golddollar,
I have an even sadder situation. Our beloved son who unquestionably tends to my needs that I can no longer preform myself, is no longer interested in shooting of any kind. I love him dearly, and will honor his, and his wife's new beliefs, without question.

I've spend a lot of time savoring the memories of all the enjoyment that my meager collection, has provided for me, and my family.

I'm now pondering the best method of selling my meager gun collection, and it's accouterments, or to just forget it, and let things take their course.

Enjoy it till you can't anymore then let someone worry about it. Which would you rather have? A nice firearm across your lap or money in your pocket? I'd take the firearm any day.

It's ok, don't sweat it. I have gone ten years without seeing a deer...still have fun though. :)

Although I have 2 sons my nephew is designated to be the Executor of my stuff or Estate. He will sell all my firearms & accessories & donate the funds to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
My sons will get first choice of 1 firearm each .
Most of them will be listed here.:)

After watching a HUGE buck grow up over four years, and never getting a clear shot at him, the big day arrived - there he stood broadside to me from less than 100 yds away. My age overruled, and I just watched him through the scope, and let him age with everyone else. I then knew my hunting days were over - it was a good run, but I couldn't pull the trigger. He still lives in my memory.

Years ago, I determined that I would no longer shoot big game that was down hill from me: hauling a deer or elk uphill is a deal breaker.

I console myself that this isn’t necessitated by old age, it’s a result of wisdom and maturity.

I think the scope got bumped in transportation. I have hunted deer for 61 years, not always successful, but still hunted. Walking is getting more difficult, three knee operations, but I still try to walk hunt all I can. In the West we don't use stands very much, and we don't get to hunt during the rut. I have seen some trophy mule deer in my yard this year, only after season. Still fun to watch.
