Getting on the 10mm bandwagon

I'm getting ready to add an RIA Tac Ultra 10mm to the herd, if the deal goes through tomorrow(hope I didn't jinx myself!). Im really looking forward to taking that puppy for a spin.

I've had Glocks, RIA's, and one Delta Elite in 10mm. Wish I still had that Delta, but I could care less about the others.

I presently have:

3 M610 no dashes
1 M1026
1 CS10
1 M&P 10mm
1 Ruger SRH
1 Sig/Mauser M2 punched out to 10mm

I like my 10mm's!

Welcome to the Rabbit hole.

The 10MM Auto is a great cartridge, I have single shots, revolvers, semi autos and even an SMG and there is no end in sight.

The single shots and the revolvers have had their chambers lengthened to shoot the 10MM Magnum as well as the 10MM Auto

Yup

I've fell right to the bottom LOL. I've got about 50 test rounds loaded up and I'm hopefully going to get out to shoot in next couple days.

I'm pretty sure this is just the first of several. Think I'm going 1911 style next.

1911s have always been a passion of mine

My first 1911 chambered for the 10MM Auto cartridge was this Delta Gold Cup that I purchased NEW in 1989 and still own today

The most recent is "THOR"
A 6" long slide I built several summers ago that was inspired after hearing a kid with his 1st 40 GLOCK proclaim that he now owned the Hammer of THOR

And there are others like this 7" AMT/IAI Javelina

I also have the 10MM Auto conversion for my LAR Grizzly . . . Now there is a 1911 style firearm that will have no issues holding up to full power ammunition and beyond. It is just getting tough to find mags and parts as time passes

You might want to look at the 6" long slide from Iver Johnson like the one cherrypointmarine is talking about. I have fired his and it is a very desirable pistol. I would have bought one for myself if I had not already built THOR

A few years ago I decided to retire my 329pd in favor of a 10mm auto. I purchased a Glock 20. Shortly after I got it the Springfield XD came out and quickly switched over to that and liked it better. Again as soon as the Smith 10mm came out jumped on it and liked it even more then the previous 2 models I carried.

Deal went through. I'll post in the "other brands" section.

10 MM pistols

I've responded to a thread like this some time ago, hope this is ok. I have a Bren Ten from first year of mfg. 1984-85. Have not shot it is 30 years, but when I did I couldn't find the brass! I've only shot 1 box of Norma plus 10 more As I recall it was a fun gun, quite snappy. I also have a Delta Elite which I don't shoot that often. Newly acquired is a Smith 1076 which is fun to shoot. I don't know if it is heavier than the Delta but it is more controllable. I have read some reports of catastrophic failures of the Bren Ten. Dose anyone have any info on this that is more recent?

I am no expert on the Bren slide failures, but the recommended solution is to have the slide checked for voids in the metal. There are several very knowledgeable Bren experts on the 10mm forum, or various FB groups that can give you a better idea.

Love the Bren Ten. I have wanted one since growing up in the 80's watching Miami Vice.

I am a piker. I only have a Ruger SR1911 10MM and a S&W 610-3.

Well, now... Since I reload and already had the dies, the bullets, the primers & the powders, I decided to try a le$$ expen$ive rung (on a back wheel?) of the bandwagon: actually, the LEA$T expen$ive!

Can you guess what's on order?

Cheers!

P.S. For a hint, Nevada Ed is reportedly quite familiar with these Made in America tanks!;)

So, I got back out with the 10mm today. In summary - I love it :)

I was getting over 1,300 FPS out of one reload and I think that'll do me.

I've heard and read some complain about loaded chamber indicators on various firearms in the past. I like it, and it has a back of the slide cocked pin as well. I would never rely on those indicators. Dad taught me nearly 50 years ago any gun is always loaded, or to treat it as such.

The sights seem really high, like 4-6 inches high and it's on everything I've shot in it so far. 1 factory load and 3 or 4 different reloads. The left and right is pretty much spot on just everything prints high.

I'm getting used to trigger. It's still a little stiff, to me anyways. Hopefully after I get a couple hundred more rounds thru it, it will smooth up some.

Overall I'm a new 10mm fan!!! Now what to buy next?

Ohhhh….I want one of those! I've been holding off until the legal mess with the brace gets resolved.

I lucked up when I ordered this online as they couldn't find the model 100 (standard color black) one in their warehouse so they substituted a model 300, Storm Trooper White color (extra charge), that they did have in-stock, at no extra cost. Probably the only purchase I actually made out better on. :p

In full disclosure, in case you didn't know but wanted to, they do not have a fully supported chamber. No review that I had read before my purchase mentioned that. :(

The white box factory loads I've tried didn't have a problem with that but full tilt handloads WILL bulge the cases.

The brand of brass used can make a slight difference but it won't eliminate it. (S&B tested the best for me.)

I don't know about other brands but my son's Kriss Vector SDP-10 (purchased after mine) doesn't have a fully supported chamber either but in my testing it's "slightly less" apt to bulge brass than the Banshee.

I've never ruptured/split a case but as a rule I only shoot "less than max loads" in it that I know won't bulge and still have plenty of velocity from the 8" bbl.

I have owned over 75 handguns over the years, but never had a desire for the 10 mm, but then my girlfriend and I started backpack camping in Colorado and Montana and she wanted us to have a good gun for bears. I never liked polymer guns but weight is a huge deal in backpacking so I bought the Smith M&P 10 mm 4" barrel. I absolutely love the gun, it fits my hand perfectly, nice trigger, I shoot it great, and the recoil is not bad at all.
