NOT S&W by a long shot but thought I'd ask. Anyone with any experience working a Giles wagon wheel rear sight mounted on his 1911's.
I have no idea of how to get it apart.
thanks,
Stu

Aj thanks! Stu, There are 3 versions of the Giles site and each has a different answer. I need a close up of the LHS windage knob. It might be screwed at the center or pinned at its circumference. This is the part that needs to be taken off first! Let me know!

Hill536, THANKS...Photo's below. I need to take the elevation wheel off as the screw holding the rib in place is under it as seen in the photo. I found the front screw loose on this newly acquired 1958 gun. There is virtually no information available on the web. Do you have any idea of the one click point of impact change also? Seems to be very finely adjustable.

thanks,

Stu

Stu the left wheel appears to be the type three with a roll pin. You need to remove the pin. You may want to do this work inside a baggie to save the pin. It is SMALL. When done unscrew the wheel from the right side. This should free the rear sight blade that is notched in the elevation wheel. When you unscrew the elevation wheel it will lift the sight blade out.

See the illustrated pic of yours and the sights components of mine. IMG_2181.webpIMG_2182.webp

Curious! Why are you doing this?

Thank you so much for this invaluable information. I just traded for this gun a few weeks ago and am just getting it sorted out. I remounted
the slide tensioner on the front of the dust cover and I think I have it adjusted properly (???) along with other little things. Today at the
range (2nd time) I felt some looseness in the sight rib and sure enough, the front screw was 2.5 turns loose. I want to verify the rear
screw is tight and probably loctite it in place with some 222 loctite. It is one fine shooting 1911. I like it almost as much as my Curtis.
Again, much thanks for the info, it is a pretty straight forward sight assembly.

They are designed for finger adjustment, no tools needed. It's really ingenious! Way back when Giles sights were on the BE gun spec sheet at the Camp Perry matches. That recognition was an honor. Thank my buddy AJ for the heads up!

Hill536, would you have any idea of how to properly adjust the slide position/tensioner device that Giles used on some of his guns? There is room to put a feeler gauge in between the device adjusting screws and the milled portion of the slide. I think on his later versions he moved the mounting screws to the side of the dust cover. I remounted this with Loctite 360 Black.
Thanks,
Stu
