Earlier this evening I signed off of another alleged gun forum for good. I got really tired of the pervasive conspiracy theorizing and over-the-edge politics. Felt like a home for paranoid personality disorder cases, and I used to diagnose those folks.

I came to this and several other forums to discuss and learn about guns. I'm grateful to the mods and participants on this site for keeping that other...uhhh...stuff under control.

I feel more at home here than on any of the others, and not just because of my deep affection for older S&W revolvers.

Thanks.

Good deal! Love your handle. Did you zig one time and it was a big mistake? :)

It's pretty much the story of my life. :o

And yes, "civil" is the word. The level of civility on a couple of forums (including the one I left tonight) is abysmal. Here you can disagree and not be subject to speculation about what species you are or whether as a newborn you were found on the doorstep of a sewage treatment plant.

Those, if any, among us whose lives were improved by being found at the doorstep of sewage treatment plants, the purpose of which, after all, is the beneficial treatment of awful offal, may take umbrage at the suggestion that this was a villification ...

You should be glad...this forum is the last stop for all permabanned gun aficionados from other forums. All the bad habits and bad language we have grown accustomed to elsewhere is a big no comprende here. Nice to see you.:D

I could not have said it better. There is nothing that will help you to appreciate a good and decent forum than a forum populated with trouble makers, whiners, ego maniacs and that special breed of social misfits that can't make it in the real world and come to the internet trying to get the attention they crave.

There was a guy on one of the less pleasant sites (I hesitate to use the descriptive term that comes to mind) who replied to an honest question from some poor soul about using .22LR for CC with the crudest ridicule of anything less than a 9mm and pointed out that he carries .357 Mags, has "been in a few firefights", and that he's "deadly accurate" with the .357's.

I just answered, "My, my...", and moved on. Wally World Commando if ever I spotted one. Conjugate the verb "to oaf". ;)

I'm too old and grumpy--and. oddly enough, too optimistic despite all appearances that the world is turning to crud and corruption--to read that kind of trash. Been here a little while, and that stuff seems (a) minimal, and (b) politely but firmly stepped on when it gets nasty.

And I really do love S&W handguns!

Got to agree that this is the place to be. Did the same as you and will only use this site. Great bunch of people here.

You really cannot beat the S&W family of firearms. Been adding to the family for years then that darn boating accident. I guess I will just have to start over! :D

I know the feeling. I've managed to tick off a few members and moderators here myself (not intentionally I must say) and hopefully by gones will be by gones. I too feel this group is a great bunch of people. Its tough to find such great knowledge, friendship, and understanding under one roof as we have here.

Who is calling me civil, that's like being called nice. I am old and cranky and full of gas.

Whoa!

Isn't this epidemic of tragic boating accidents scary? I know a guy who lost his entire collection in a kiddie pool. Horrible!

So what about .22lr for self-defense?

Guess it could do the job with really good shot placement, but I'm a .38 Special +P sort of geezer. A real throwback, according to some, but I'm 150 years old. In dog years.

I imagine the ninja gunfighter who's so "deadly accurate" with his .357's in all those firefights would mock my .38's too.

Don't bother asking if I would give a deleted expletive. ;)

I mostly lurk due to my ignorance, but this forum is far and away better than any of the others. Lots of knowledgeable people, good civility and great senses of humor!

Why? Were They tracking you there too? Nothing is going to stop Them no matter what people try. Changing avatars to dead Hollywood stars such as Dean Martin or Jim Belushi ain't gonna help. Beware the Gorilla!

shouldazagged has it right. Plus, there's so many different
S&W models and options, that there's always something new to
look forward to. That's where the optimism comes into play.

Welcome, we don't rag on each other. Once in a while we will have civil discourse but we police each other pretty well.

That's why I'm here--that, the wealth of information and reviews, and the comparative lack of wild-hair conspiracy theorizing.

I was lurking on another forum recently when some joker started a thread with "Can we all agree that .308 is the best all around cartridge". The inevitable caliber war started with the abuse level from mild to vitriolic. Right in the middle of this scrum somebody posted this gem.

""Can we all agree" is the operative phrase indicating that you are new to this whole Internet thing."

PRICELESS!!.. stolen, too.:D
