Glider?

There’s something strange going on here.
A Glider with a Propeller Warning?
Retractable Landing Gear?
No Problemo! It’s a Stemme!
A Hybrid Plane - Glider.
Takes off with the Prop out, engine revving.
Gets to Altitude, engine off, let’s Glide!
Stemme in Germany calls it a Motor-Glider.
Took this pic at Moriarty, NM.
Big time Glider flying location.
Here in NM where the unusual is always just a ways now the road.

It's been a thing since at least the late 1900's
The Maupin Windrose was an interesting foam core design dating back to 1984 in it's rotax powered version. It was a fairly fast building design as homebuilt aircraft go.
