Glock 42 self-defense ammo

Been loading that reliable 68gr Xtreme Defender in 380acp & 9mm (some) for years... At a typical 1,100+ & 1,500 fps respectively they move right along! Still relatively soft shooting as well.

I would concur that most factory loadings of the 90gr XTP seem to function quite well in many different 380s, from the AMT Backup, Kahrs, CPX-3, Baby Rock, etc. No reason to suspect they would do any less in the G42.

Cheers!

P.S. Now, with Lehigh's suggested MAX of 10.0gr of CFE-Pistol @ 1,840 fps in my 357 SIGs you have a real 68gr barn burner!

I don't have a G42, but these have all worked well in my old LCP.

G42 Carry Ammo....

Federal Personal Defense HST Micro (99gr. Bonded JHP) is my current choice and has been the past 2 years.

My prior carry load was Speer Gold Dot 90gr. (I still like this load)

I have also been shooting the New Winchester Elite Defender (Low Flash) 95gr. Bonded JHP

These loads are GTG in the G42

Since then, Precision One lists a higher pressure version they say works better in the Glock. I don't know what issue there was because I haven't seen itIt would be worth asking before buying.

Follow up. I called and the lady said the issue was with earlier production G42 sometimes not fully cycling. They had recoil springs with higher spring rates.

380 ammo

used to use Underwood 380 but last month had 3 FTF in a box of 20, bad primers. Now im trying Buffalo Bore and Speer.

Personally I'd not carry a .380 unless I had no other choice. If I did, I would use American Eagle 95 grain FMJ. No, it will not expand at all, but at least you will get adequate penetration (15+"). From what I have seen and read, there are no hollow points out there to date that will reliably penetrate even close to the minimum of 12" and that's a problem for me. Yea, they might expand a little but without adequate penetration, that is just not enough to rapidly and reliably stop an attacker IMO.

BTW, the reason for recommending American Eagle is that is is a little faster than most of the other brands of 95 grain FMJ. hence, more foot pounds of energy.

Personally I would not carry a 380 ACP either.

Why a Glock 42 when the Glock 43 is available? 9mm is a stopper but a 380 ACP is a wounder from my police experience.

On a Target Range most handguns run fine. Take your 380 to a "Combat" type shooting match where you have movement and see if those JHPs still feed under less that perfect conditions.
