Recently bought a Glock 42 .380 auto. Any suggestions on good target/range ammunition for this pistol with bullets of at least 95 grain. Thanks for any suggestions.

I bought a shed load of Fiocchi. So far 100% in four different guns, but none are a Glock 42.

I always try a number of different brands/loads in a gun to determine what that particular weapon prefers for reliable function and accuracy. It can take some effort but it lets me get the most out of the gun and forces me to shoot and familiarize myself with it,and it is fun!

I bought a Glock 42 a few weeks back, and the wife and I have taken it out shooting twice. We started with some 100 grain ball reloads from a local gun shop which does a huge amount of reloading. In the first 30 rounds had 6 malfunctions, mostly failure to eject. We then switched to new Remington-UMC 95 grain ball and have fired 250 rounds without incident.

FWIW, we fired 150 rounds of the reloads in a Ruger LCP II and the Ruger loved 'em. But I won't be using them anymore in the Glock.

Thanks for all the input! Not sure what our local shops have in this caliber right now. Looked at the MagTech on-line and it gets good reviews. Reasonably priced too. Just have to try a few more. Shot some Speer Lawman and had a few ejection problems. Gun has been shot lightly and maybe not at all so it may not be the ammo.

I think it is a good idea to let the gun select what works best.

The Rem-UMC 95 gr FMJ as pictured in post 4 gives the best overall
performance in my G42. For cheaper range ammo try the Russian
steel cased Silver Bear FMJ ammo available from sgammo. It is reliable
and accurate in my G42. sgammo has Fiocchi FMJ on sale right now in
case lots.

I have a .380 SIG P250 subcompact. I've fired a bunch of different brands through it, and it has handled them all perfectly. However, one brand stood out from all of the others in terms of accuracy, and that was SIG's .380Auto Elite Ball FMJ 100g.

Bought a G42 a few years ago and it has fired everything feed into it, reliably. Perfecta, Remington Green box, Blazer Brass, Winchester Wh. Box, American Eagle, UMC, doesn't seem to matter.

Enjoy your 42. It's the best shooting small .380 I have fired.

I have an earlier G42 and have not had any reliability issues with it from several brands of ammo from premium defense to cheap ball ammo.

Some of the first issue G42 pistols had some quality/reliability issues...but they improved things and most of the early ones had no issues. New ones should be as good as any Glock

The pistol I bought online had 4 “02” magazines with it. Glock replaced all 4 with the newer “03” mags. No charge for anything. Good customer service.

I bought a box of the Aguila 95 gr. FMJ this afternoon. Will try it out sometime this week to see what it does in my gun. Not real happy with the Speer Lawman ammo I shot up yesterday. Too many problems with it. Will see if it's the ammo, the gun , or just me doing something I shouldn't be doing when firing.

Do you have guns that are newer manufacture?? Mine was made in 2014 and I have read where they had some issues with the earlier models.

It should eat anything, its a Glock.

Now that I've said that let me put on my flak gear...

I won one at a DU banquet and shot ball and Hornady ammo with it, no problems.

I think my G42 magazines are marked "02". How did you get
Glock to replace your mags with the "03" mags?

Called them and they told me just to ship them and they would replace them. However, I used the new ones this weekend and still having some FTE problems. Going to try some different ammo and if it doesn’t do any better that gun is going back to Georgia. I called them and they said to ship it to them if problems persist. I have read where they will cover the shipping both ways but the guy I talked to didn’t seem to know about that.

I've had good luck with Freedom Munitions for range ammo. I only use new.

I bought one of the very early mod 19s and had a problem with
the barrel. The chamber was way too tight and some ammo
would stick in the chamber and jam the gun. I sent it back to
Glock and they replaced the barrel. I paid for shipping to them
and they paid return shipping. As for your FTE problems with
your 42 my experience is that the 42 requires warm ammo.
Like many other ctgs today the .380 is watered down in some
brands of factory ammo. Factory 95 gr FMJ that averages at
least 900 fps out of the 42 is most reliable in my gun.

I will use nothing lower than 95 gr. The company rep. said those 42’s can be tricky with lower weight bullets because of the stiff spring.
