Went to the indoor range today and after enjoying my M&P45c, a friend of mine who is a dedicated 3gun shooter, and a retired range officer for a Fed Agency was given my M&P for examination and comment.

My 45c has the Apex tactical Hard Sear and USB installed. My friend being a hidebound, Glock shooter forever, tried the grip and the sights and the trigger and reset, then overwhelmed me with this statement:

If I were buying a carry gun today; it would be this gun the M&P 45c.

This is a man who has always considered the Glock to be the only serious self defense weapon to own, rethinking his position.

Not putting Glocks down since they are indisputably well-made and reliable guns (even though I think them an "ergonomic mess"), but why people feel it reasonable to put them on such high pedestals has always escaped me. It is nice to know once in a while some of these folks find it possible to look around and give other pistols a chance. :)

Sure it's disputable. Especially when Glock's explode while trying to digest .40 S&W ammo.

Not saying if I'm a Glock fan or not, but I suggest that you back up your claim with legitimate evidence/links before you make a statement like that on a public forum. The one case I found was with 2 (of 90) Glock 37's (.45 cal) that "exploded" during firearm training by LEO's. Unless you have evidence to show otherwise, "exploding" Glocks appears to be more urban legend than documented fact.

Well, I can think of 4 other instructors of my acquaintance who own & shoot Glocks, and now they own M&P 45's. ;)

One of them had a hard time understanding how he could instantly shoot my M&P 45 FS more easily & more accurately than his G21SF (and my M&P 45 is stock, BTW).

Now that S&W has had the time to refine their M&P and make some necessary revisions (and it wouldn't surprise me if they made some further refinements) ... and Sig is apparently just completing the process of revising & refining their P250 ... I think you're going to start seeing Glock lose increasingly more chunks of the LE market.

I didn't mean to start a Glock food-fight, and I admit to being so far out of the Glock mainstream I don't really know what is going on with them. I do know the Indiana State Police wanted to use the .40 caliber Glock and had to return them for 9x19s, but the story I heard is that some of the female officers could not handle them. Apparently there were limp-wristing problems. No fault of the gun there.

But back to the OPs point, and that being the M&P45 - it is a nice gun. In other places I've mentioned that mine has a tight chamber, or short throat infront of the chamber, possibly both. It does not allow some of my handloads (using the Lee flat-nose design bullet), but with everything else, the gun is great and the only real criticism I have of it is the stock trigger. I have the Apex sear in my M&P9L, but have not gotten around to ordering one for the .45 - yet. :)

Actually failures in early model .40 cal Glocks are well documented. Seems there was a combination of factors attributing to the problem including the large feeding ramp which made for a reliable loading gun but left a good portion of the case rim area unsupported. Other factors included using cast lead reloads or copper washed factory loads in the polygonal rifled barrels.

Here are just a couple of links.
