Hello All:
Does anyone know if I could send my gun back to the factory or where ever to get the Gold accent touched up. I have a 625-4 Springfield Armory commerative, 45 ACP 4"inch Mountain Gun. On the inspection plate is an anniversary Springfield symbol of the crossed cannon & flaming bomb in Gold. The weapon is new and unfired condition, however I made the mistake of polishing the stainless steel. In that process I got to close to the Gold and rubbed some off, not much though, I will enclose a pic asap of the problem. Thanks for any help with advice. Whitey

Brownells sells a product, I think its called "Gold Load ". Its a product that is designed to be used to fill in engraving and such with a gold type material.

You must have been really going at it with a buffing wheel to buff that crossed cannons logo down. I've had one of these since new, and that sideplate "bling" is still sharp. Mine gets excercised regularly, but is carefully handled and never holstered. I'm thinking you probably removed a couple hundred dollars off the value of that gun. Keep in mind, there were only 500 made in that Lew Horton run + this was the only mountain revolver tapered barrel gun that had a hammer nose firing pin. What were you thinking?????

My .44 mag and 45LC mtn. guns have the firing pin on the hammer.

You are correct!.........meant to say the only 625 in 45ACP with that tapered barrel and firing pin on hammer.

Getting back to the dilemma of the original poster.........You might want to give Ford's in Crystal River, FL a call. They may be able to work some magic for you. They are superb gun refinishers.

Thank you all for the replys. I am going to contact "Fords" to see if they can help. It is not that it has to be completely refinished, or maybe it does? The amount of Gold that came off is minimal but noticable, maybe 10% of the whole and only on the upper 1/4 of the design. Thanks again for all info. Whitey
