Golden Bullets

Thanks for the info!
Does what you posted apply even if the magazine is left empty in the gun? and a round is then inserted?

Yes, it does. A round is supposed to be fed vertically from the magazine to the bolt face as the bolt returns to battery. As I said, the rim of the round goes up between the bolt face and the extractor hook.

Besides with an empty magazine in place. most semi-autos lock back the bolt. You'd have to remove the magazine for the bolt to go into battery.

Now this is interesting. Spoke with a tech rep at Browning & he said it would not be an issue with my Buck Mark Camper pistol.
He did advise against dry firing but stated single-loading is ok. BTW, I don't have to remove the magazine for the bolt to engage. I simply use the slide release button with the empty magazine in.

Well, you are welcome to follow his advice. I've seen enough broken extractors over the years to recommend against such practice. However, the discussion is about 15-22s, not Buckmarks. :)

I do appreciate your good intentions but will follow the advice of the manufacturer.

S&W advised many of us that dropping a 9mm barrel into or .40 slide wouldnt function properly.

However, it's good to know that my Shield shoots both .40 and 9mm. :D

It's amazing what the factory will tell you to avoid a potential blame being thrown back at them.

I stand corrected. I'm not a Browning person. :)

The tech also mentioned "There's a place for the extractor to go so that it can actually get a hold of the rim. It doesn't slam into the breech"
Perhaps that explains it.

The extractor contacts the rim of the cartridge BEFORE it ever reaches the recess in breech face ... And I never said it slammed into the breech.

WM had 4 225 round boxes of GBs limit 3 I bought my three boxes took em home and fired 6 mags worth (150 rounds) not a single problem one was noticeably louder than the others but 31 dollars for 675 rounds =-O I'll take a louder pop every once in a while.

With the prices now days, even a few duds out of that box would have been worth it. :D

Just shot a bunch out of my 15-22 and M&P 22 -- neither had any issues however they do seem a bit dirtier. At $23.99 a box for 500+ rounds I can deal with a little more cleaning.

Not my preference round but when I can't find any CCI or Aguila -- they will do.....

That's pretty much my experience. I just shot about 200 rounds a bit ago and the only issue I had was a couple bouncebacks caused by a brass deflector I'm using. The ammo is nasty, but the gun eats it fine.

Hi

Hi Guys n Gals having just read this thread i have an issue, i have just found out that my regular gunshop has now got some much awaited CCI Mini Mags in stock.

The problem is here in the UK they are now coming in at £70.00 per thousand compared to £50.00 per thousand for Golden bullets.

I have always used MiniMags without fault in my 15-22, but i have never tried Golden bullets.

As i use the Smith for Mini Rifle comps reliability is crucial!

Any thoughts would be helpful. atb

Then buy the MiniMags, if you are shooting in competition. The Remingtons are fine for plinking, though.

I mentioned this in another thread, but I have been through over 4,000 golden bullets with under 20 malfunctions. The variations in noise were all over the place, quite a few fliers, and they were very dirty.

But, almost every round went down range, and that is a good thing. There are other rounds I prefer, but I would use them again if that is all I could find.

thanks

Thanks guys for your input, after reading back my question i realised i had already given myself the answer.
i bought the Mini Mags, and if i ever get time to plink i will get some Golden bullets.

Picked up my Bucket-o-Bullets from Gander Mountain this past weekend, and put 300 rounds through my M&P 15-22, with my son, with 1 failure to feed. Slow fire produced a 1-1/2" group of 50 shots at 25 yards when resting our support hand on sand bags. Rapid fire produced a 3" group of 50 shots at 25 yards when resting our support hand on sand bags. When I say rapid fire, we were emptying a 25 round magazine in about 10 seconds.

Also ran 60 rounds through my M&P 22 pistol with zero malfunctions.
