Does anyone have any recommendations for good commercial .38 Super self-defense loads? I'm only interested in JHPs.

I carry 147gr. Winchester White Box in my 9x19mms. I'm not a fan of very light bullets, so I'd like something 124gr. or heavier.

I'm looking for something to carry in a 5" RIA M1911.

Thanks.

I prefer to shoot at least 100 of any cartridge in the gun I will depend on, through the magazines I will use, before trusting it for serious.

I have shot some of Winchester's 125 grain Silvertip load in my Colt Gov't. It is loaded to 1240 fps, and is their catalog number X38ASHP. It's the same bullet they load in their 9X23 Winchester. It's probably what I would carry in a .38 Super.

I too use the Winchester ST, but actual testing indicates it falls a little below the quoted 1240 fps, but is still above 1200. Remington makes (or made) a 115 grain JHP R38SU1, and PMC also a 115 grain JHP 38SB. I do not recommend the PMC, it is loaded below their 9mm offerings. Aguila 130 FMJ is an excellent practice load, which I have clocked at average 1255 fps.
