Hello, can anyone suggest a good chest holster that will securely hold my 686+. Preferably Kydex, but a good leather rig will be okay too. Thanks!

I use the Kenai chest holster to ride my mountain bike. It carries a J Frame so is somewhat lighter than you want to carry.
My experience is that I can ride my bike on very rough terrain and absolutely forget I am wearing it. It does not rub, bounce or shift on me. Most people who write reviews are carrying larger than a J-frame but are not bouncing and vibrating as much as mountain bike riding does.

I bought this brand because of the reviews I read over many different forums. They were VERY few negative reports. I found a few complaints about the cost or a few people complaining about it not being leather.

EDIT: I wear a 3X size basketball type or weight lifter type jersey over my Kenai. It covers the gun and all the straps except for the one under my left arm pit. I am seldom seen by anyone, but if I am all they see is a bike rider with a baggy shirt. The large arm holes allow a very easy and fast draw.

The El Paso Saddlery "1942 Tanker" holster is at once elegant and practical. It is their copy of the WWII-era M7. The lift-the-dot closure is extremely secure. It is also quite durable: I carried my service pistol in one in Afghanistan, over my body armor, and no worries.

Best Kydex I have ever used is the Kenai. I have one for a G20.

Best leather from a shop called Camp Curry Leather. Find them in Etsy and on Facebook. I have 8 or 9 holsters from this guy. I have been buying leather holsters for many years (since the early 80’s) and I have never purchased leather done better than this man produces. Even at MUCH higher prices. He really does amazing work and prices are surprising… to me at least.

I found leather to be much more comfortable on revolvers due to the cylinder bulge.

This rig is $160IMG_1377.jpeg

Thanks for the overwhelming response, guys! It's given me a LOT of options to look into. I'm looking to purchase one by October for a multiday backpacking trip along the Chatoogah River. Thanks again!!

Great! Let us know which direction you take.

Some makers can have long lead times for custom orders. Just bringing this up so you don't get caught short.
Some have a fee to take cuts to the head of the line.

I also have a 686 3-5-7-plus 5 inch and need a shoulder or chest holster. I love this revolver, unfluted and 7 shot.

Check out Invader Concepts. Kydex holster and 2” straps for comfort. I love leather holsters, but for backpacking and bad weather, I’ll always take Kydex.
