Looks like a good crop of muscadines and figs this summer. These are a couple of very dependable producers. Very few pests seem to bother them, and they aren’t disease prone. I planted the muscadine grapes about 10 years ago, and the huge fig tree is probably 100-plus years old.

I tried muscadines down in Broward and the birds wouldn't leave them be.
My fig tree was untouched by anything.

When my figs start ripening they are attacked by birds, squirrels, racoons even possum.I tried bird netting but the four legged pests get under it.
I bought a plastic owl at Walmart to see if it would keep the birds away. The next day there was a mockingbird perched on the owls head, it left a "deposit" there. I left it as is and brought it back to WMT I showed the Ladies at the returns counter what the bird had left, they had a laugh and gave me a refund.

A late frost got a lot of my muscadines last year. I still managed to get a couple of gallons before the raccoons got the rest. No frost this year so it looks like I'll be giving some away if I can keep the coons out.

Yes, except ours get really big, and we cut them into smaller pieces.

That’s as pretty as a stained glass window. Consider a slice of jalapeño in a few when you put them up. Special on a nice piece of venison.
