Good customer service from S&W knives

I like to give credit where credit is due. Recently I contacted S&W knives about some replacement screws and a blade for two of my S&W knives. I spoke to a gentleman named Ryan in Customer Service.

He said they do not usually deal in parts, but if I could send pictures he would take a look at the issues. I sent pictures. He called back in a few hours and said he would instead replace both knives with new ones.

Cool, huh? The knives were years old and I just thought this service needed some 'atta boys.

Had a S&W single edged auto for years. Had the heavy metal scales with the rubber inlays.

Smith & Wesson got a bad rap over the low cost, overseas production, and inconsistent quality of their knives over the past decade, but they stand behind their products, so if you do get a knife with issues, they're make it right.

Unfortunately, knife snobbery is even worse than gun snobbery, so there are plenty of folks who turn their noses up at them because they honestly believe that their $60+ sharpened piece of Chinese steel is better than your $30 sharpened piece of Chinese steel.

That would be entirely feasible, as they own Schrade, and Schrade's Alpha Class knives are made in the USA.

I didn't know that I was told that Schrade was bought up by a foreign Co (Taylor Cutlery) and are all made overseas.

I've had several of the knife on the right in the OP. I bought them from Grainger's and they replaced them no questions asked if less than a year old. If this makes sense: I would get the oldest one replaced with the warranty from a newer-purchased knife, same model. (My Grainger guy did this for me! Heck, I spent thousands of dollars on motors, tools, etc. A $50 knife wasn't a big deal. They just throw them out!)
Oh, BTW, it wasn't MY thousands of dollars!

I have a number of S&W knives, folders and fixed blade, and although made overseas I find them to be of decent (and servicable) quality. Although I don't like to lose a knife, losing a $25-$45 knife is a lot less painful than losing a $150-$250 knife.

Great to hear S&W Customer Service came through for you. We don't hear enough of that anymore with many companies and it is good to know they stand behind their products.

Whoa guys I'm just saying I would like to see Buck,Case or GEC get contracted for a S&W knife.
I don't buy a knife so I can worry about losing it.
Just like my trade tools I just don't get worried,I like a high QUALITY tool.

They were, but then they were acquired by B.I.T. (who also owns Smith & Wesson) and now they have three tiers of knives.

Alpha Class
Made in the United States of America.

Beta Class
Made in Taiwan, Japan, Germany, and the United States.

Delta Class
Made in China.

Where's Kappa Class? I dunno... But there you go, most of their knives are made overseas. However, some are made in USA, and Schrade is owned by the same conglomerate as Smith & Wesson, so they wouldn't have to contract an outside company to make their knives in America, they could just have Schrade Alpha make them.

While I admire the OP for wearing out some knives, I scratch my head as to why he did not hang the worn-out knives on the wall to a testament to a life well lived.

I've not found the quality of S&W knives to be inconsistent at all, every single one I've seen has been a piece of junk, consistently

because they honestly believe that their $60+ sharpened piece of Chinese steel is better than your $30 sharpened piece of Chinese steel.

Why would I buy a $30 Chinese knife when I can buy a $30 American Knife?



The price on this has gone up but I paid 30 bucks for it
