While not exactly a carry gear question, I would like to purchase a decent hardshell case, without breaking the bank, for my M&P 40 FF. Any suggestions?

Hard Case

You can run the gamut from a Plano at around $10-15 at Bass Pro, Cabela's, Gander, etc. to a Pelican 1500 series at around $125. The difference is the protection of your current handgun(s) and local regulations. Here's the short of it: 1.) a basic hard case will protect your pistol from bumps and scrapes from your storage to point of use. A better case will last longer and further protect your firearm. After all, you just spent XXX-XXXX dollars on a firearm, do you want to spend only X to protect it ? Also, your local regulations may require your case to be locked-- mine do. So, rather than trust my firearms to a cheesey lock, I bought a case with internal tubular locks and keys. It looks and works right.

Plano Gun Guard all weather (AW) series... Got this one at my local Walmart last year for about $65. Very sturdy, I call it my poor mans Pelican case... it has the segmented "pluckable" foam interior to customize it to your firearm, it also has a built in "pressure" valve.

I like that in addition to the front latches, there are side ones as well.

Pelicans are my "go to" hard case for every type of firearm I transport. I have seen them subjected to rough handling and abuse, and they always did what they were designed to do.
