I have some wonderful neighbors, but I didn’t realize it until I started talking to them more a few years ago. Since then we’ve helped each other out with many issues, and saved each other lots of time and money. I never wanted to be involved in some bs neighbor drama; so far so good on that front, my fears have been unfounded. It’s been worth it for me to open up to the neighbors and I just thought y’all should know

In these times, neighbors need to establish ties and watch each others back. I can remember a time not too long ago when everybody in the hood kept to themselves and were virtual strangers to one another...except perhaps for "next door" neighbors. Today, we all seem to talk a lot more...whether across the street or down the street everyone communicates and interacts a lot more than they did in the past. I've found that the best way to get to know everyone is to take daily walks around the block and say hi or make small talk to anyone you run into along the way. After a while of doing that, I've got a few dozen people who honk or wave every time they drive past my house. Some of these people live 1/4 mile away...which is a long way in the suburbs. Can't be a bad thing having everyone know you...these people know what's "normal" for my house. If anything doesn't look right to passersby, they may stop and check on things or call someone.

We have some very good ones and some real bad ones. The bad ones getting beat down by good

Around a third of my neighbors are gun owners and most of the rest are glad we are.

We get along fine.

That's been my experience too! Just walking around the hood and making small talk, I was surprised how many times the conversation somehow turned to guns and how open people were to "admit" they owned guns. I think the medias figure regarding gun ownership is way off if my average neighborhood is representative of the whole country. People criticize guns, but I've found them a great uniter. I don't care how little I have in common with any given neighbor...if they own guns, we're instant friends...good friends who can trust one another if the stuff ever hits the fan. ;)

We try to look out for each other but in a balanced way looking out for without annoying or being nosey . Helping each other when needed

Anybody else here join nextdoor.com? I was skeptical when I got the invitation, but it's turned out to be very useful. It's put me into contact with people from all around my area...it has crime alerts and all kinds of stuff. I even sold a car in only one day...to somebody a couple blocks away.

I am a wave at my neighbors type of guy all my life. Not much interaction, stay to myself and family.

Moved back to Washington state and the neighbors here are the brother and sis in law of the folks we bought the house from. Have turned into fast friends. Well worth it. But the neighbors on the left side, I just wave at them, their dog barks at me and chased my horses the first day. I told them I wouldn't put up with that. They have been decent since (the dogs, just barkers)....

Besides having a home business (which is too complicated to explain here), we manage the apartments where we live, and a few other properties. We've been here twelve years now, the longest either one of us has lived in one place. We have great tenants, we like all of them and they like us.

My neighbors on both sides are the best I've ever had. There's an older lady on the right, and we watch out for her, and on the left, there's a young guy (mid 30's) who's been there as long as we have. He's a hunter, fisherman, and gun enthusiast, and I could trust him with anything I own.

I had the best next door neighbors, they only spent about two weeks a year here.

Only 3 houses on our road. One of the neighbors is fairly new, and we're gradually warming up to each other. The other is a fantastic neighbor, we're always chatting and helping each other out. Swapped some reloading stuff the other day. But they are moving soon to their retirement house on a golf course. We're happy for them, but very sad to see them go. Sure hope the folks that buy their house are half as nice.

I just went through that with my next door neighbor. Ended up with perhaps an even better neighbor somehow. Also they fixed up the house a lot, and the block is looking even better now

my next door neighbors are 3 miles away.
that's as close as i want them.

I hear ya and can relate to that feeling, but as we all age and develop health problems, sometimes it can be comforting to have other people close by.
