This is a great article and was discussed over at the Liberal Gun Club forum.

This issue can be dealt with more productively if its seen as the safety issue it is. There are some situations where a person is not in their right mind and needs help. The idea that guns are the problem is false and gets people off on a mad tear in some unfocused direction. Some pro-guns think it means restrictions of guns and anti-guns think it should lead to some degree of restriction. We've been there and done restrictions and it didn't help in terms of safety.

This is a safety issue and should be addressed as such. When people need help how can we help them? I don't believe anyone here or from the Liberal Gun Club forum want anyone harmed by a troubled person and that's the common fact.

Don't get too sidetracked by letting the extremes get you to think this is a 2nd amendment issue, its a safety issue that needs dealt with directly. How can people get help early, how can we recognize who needs help, and how do they get it? This is the question to be addressed. Not how many rounds does that mag hold?

When people ask me, "How can you be a liberal and support RKBA" I correct them and let them know this is an issue for society and people who need direct help at the time they need it. Its not a gun issue so stop trying to turn it into one.
