I save my boxes of accessories I purchase as well as firearms. I keep them in a plastic bin. Nine years ago when I bought my M&P15-22 I purchased a Leapers UTG Bipod to mount to the picatinny rail. Nice bipod for the money and use it all the time.

Recently I won a Savage 110 Hunter XP in 6.5 Creedmoor in a VFW July 4th raffle. In outfitting the new rifle I looked at purchasing a bipod to attach to the sling swivel stud. After several days I remembered that the UTG bipod box had an extra piece in it. I dug out the box and there inside was a mounting to attach to the stud so you could use the picatinny mounting. Well made and great piece of slick engineering. Fit perfectly. UTG sells this accessory on their website. Worth checking out if you want to use an existing bipod on other rifles.

We're of the same mind, VaTom. I keep all the boxes I've accumulated with various guns. I keep the various fiddly bits for that particular gun in the box. When I change out original parts like grips, sights, springs, triggers etc. they go into the box. If I don't have a box for the gun, those swapped-out parts go into a baggie with gun and date info, and then into a plastic storage bin. That bin is full of gun parts. While I'm not even close to being a gunsmith, I can swap parts with the best of them.
