What do I need to start out with? 9MM for the wife and .40 for me. Possible AR-15 on .223.

You need a press, dies, powder measure (dispenser) and a set of scales to check the powder measure with. That is the hardware. You need at least one and preferably several reloading manuals.

Edit: misread original message. I'd start with a manual it will give you the idea of equipment needed. There's a bare minimum, that max pointed out in his message, and then there are "luxury" items depends on your needs, volumes.

Thanks guys, I am looking at a Lee 1000. I will get a few books and start my reloading!

I would highly recommend a single stage press instead of a Lee 1000. Lee's Classic Cast press is a pretty reasonably priced press. Make sure you check you local swap/sell ads for used equipment, this can be the most cost effective way to get alot of the essentials from someone getting out of reloading. For the rounds you mentioned you won't need a huge press, and there are some goods ones like the RCBS JR2 or JR3 that go for pretty cheap money that will do the same thing as a RockChucker, Big Boss, Crusher 2, Co-ax, etc.

Read The ABC's of reloading. Then read a reloading manual like the Luman 49th. After you have read both of those, THEN you can start shopping for equipment. The basic set up Max posted is all that is needed, but I would add a pair of calipers and a kinetic bulet puller to the list as well.

Most importantly are those two books I mentioned. And a single stage press is all that is needed. Lot of things can go wrong with a new reloader and a progressive press.
