Got a good offer on a m&p 9, should I take it?

You should jump on it asap. As for people hating on the stippling, is it really a big deal on a removable part?
If it was done by A2 stippling it is gtg.

I'm quite partial to this pattern.

Just out of curiosity, if I decide to buy the used mp9 would I have any warranty privileges under smith & Wesson if I ever needed a repair/replacement part?

I own 2 M&P's - A FS M&P 9 & FS M&P 45. I got the 9mm new @ $478 + tax. I bought the M&P 45 used-like new in box ($468 + tax). Honestly, this scared me; made in 2007 and didn't look like it had been shot-why? But I trust the dealer and they have an on sight gunsmith. So I knew either the shop or S&W would take care of any issues I might have.

To date, I have had NO ISSUES at all with either pistol. I bought 2 used mags for the 45, which work as well as the 2 original mags. Just purchased 2 new mags for the M&P 9 and tried them today at the range-again no issues. I have used several brands of factory ammo in both, as well as my reloads-again, no issues with feed/function/ejection.

I would personally want as much information about the used gun as I could get, especially why he would let it go after all the upgrades? I wouldn't invest the time or money in so many upgrades just to let it go!

In regards to my used M&P 45; I went to the S&W website to register my new M&P 9mm and while there, went through the process with the 45. Evidently, the warranty had never been registered, so I have a warranty on my M&P 45, even though it was made in 2007! :D

That would be a question to ask before purchase. otherwise 50/50 chance.

I like the M&P better than the Glock, not because it's a better gun, it's just different and more to my liking.
Can't go wrong with either one.

The warranty is only good for the original purchaser. That doesn't mean they won't help you. However, it's unlikely that you'll need it.

Thanks for the replies everyone, since it is basically priced as a brand new gun (even with all the upgrades) I think I'll sit on the decision for a little (and do a couple more rentals between the xdm, m&p and g19) before making a decision that costs a months rent lol

Warm welcome to the Forum.

Just my 0.02:

Glock + Reliable, functional, striker fire, incredible aftermarket support, great customer service, new models with replaceable panels, accurate enough for a duty weapon.

Glock - Poor ergos, lack of beavertail, tendency to slide bite with a high grip, grip angle that strikes some as odd, poor ambi support for lefty's, cheap plastic sights.

M&P + Reliable, functional, striker fire, good aftermarket support, good customer service, replaceable backstraps, steel sights, ambi slide lock, able to field strip without pulling trigger, reversible mag release, lifetime warranty, made in USA, excellent ergos, accurate enough for a duty weapon.

M&P - Gritty trigger that smooths out (eventually), some early models had accuracy issues with either barrell lockup / twist rate / ammo.

I shot both, picked an M&P. Respect Glocks, they just did not work for me.

So... only 200 rounds through it huh?

Not that I care about round count on a gun for the most part (Not that many gun owners take it to the point it really matters) but you know... every gun for sale only has 200 rounds through it.

Glocks and S&W M&P......well I have both and like both.

For me $550 is way too much. Adding those parts to the gun especially if he doesn't have the originals means nothing in terms of adding price to the sale. It devalues the gun in reality. I have friends that are in the business and they will tell you it adds nothing. Many people do not want modified guns. He's better off going back to original and selling the parts separately. Unless the sights are something S&W offers as a factory upgrade, it means nothing. Plus how old are the sights? They get dim in time so as they age they become worthless.

I'd pass unless he came down to $450 and had the originally parts to put back in.

I paid $260 for a M&P .40 police trade in. I see them all the time for $350 and some 9mm for $400ish online but they are a little scarce. It's because of the switch over to 9mm by LE, supply and demand. Local sale should be about $450 or less. For a few bucks more you can get a brand new one.

Some people think they have gold, they don't. Get a new one and shoot it a lot. If you feel the trigger needs work you don't need a whole APEX kit which goes for $160, you just might need to have it polished and it will be fine. Unless you're in competition or a professional, a stock but well shot M&P 9 should be perfect for HD, carry, professional or a range gun.

I think I'll stop by the store tomorrow and offer $450 for it. I'll judge how they react and if they're totally unwilling to work with me I'll just walk (I'd rather get a new gun, have the fun of breaking it in and adding aftermarket stuff as I go). The used aspect doesn't bother me too much it's the price, I bought a beretta px4 storm used for $400 and it's been a great gun (unfortunately 40sw ammo isn't quite as wallet friendly, hence wanting a fun range gun in 9mm).

Well I ended up buying the m&p9 today. Talked them down on the price to $475 and got a free box of ammo and range session (so basically about $450). No failures or jams in ~150 rounds, really nice recoil however my accuracy wasn't so great due to my new gun excitement and a little too much coffee this morning haha.

Turns out it has Trijicon night sights, a SureFire x300 taclight, a Raven fitted kydex holster, and of course the trigger system. So far I'm pretty happy with it, gunna take it out again tomorrow to dump another 50 or so rounds doe range and see if I can tighten up my groups.

Just out of curiousity, my barrel has 1 dimple on the underside does that mean it has the 1/10 twist vs the first gen 1/18 twist?

Yes, probably:

I wish that internet myth would just go away. Alas, once on the net it will be there forever. According to S&W, the dimples are there to indicate which machine was used during the manufacturing process.

I don't remember how old your barrel is, but the only way to know for sure is to measure the twist rate. Do you know how?

I have no idea how to measure the twist rate. Do I need any special tools or anything or just pick a rifling groove Mark the beginning on a piece of paper and follow it to the tip of the barrel and place another mark?

It's not that hard. Use a cleaning rod with a brush on it. Put the rod in and make a mark on it so you know where it starts. Then push the rod/brush through allowing the brush to follow the grooves. Watch the mark as the rod/brush goes the length of the barrel.

If the barrel is a 1:10 twist, the rod will make about 1/2 revolution. If it doesn't make that turn, it's the other twist rate.

See, easy.
