Charlie's computer was shot so after sharing mine for a couple of months, we finally broke down and went to Staples.
The HP Pavilion P6610F was on sale from $530 to $450 so we felt this was a great price and bought it.
Setting it up at home, I was jealous of its speed and Windows 7 capabilities so Charlie was nice enough to offer to buy me the same one.
Back we went to Staples today and the computer price was back up to $530. The sale was over yesterday! The floor associate wouldn't do a thing about it and I asked for the manager, who wouldn't do a thing about it either despite our telling him we had just bought the same one only yesterday.
He offered to let us know when it went on sale again.
Then he offered us a $45 "apology" coupon good on any future purchase for up to 90 days.
He took a bit too long in the back writing it up... so long that while he was gone we used the display laptop to go online and search out where else the computer was sold.
Voila! It was on sale at OfficeMax for $480 with free shipping.
The manager came back and handed me the coupon and I slipped it into my purse and then said, "Doesn't Staples offer Price Matching? Here is the same computer at Office Max!" He scrutinized the website and said he would match the price.
When checking out he said, "That'll be $501 with tax." I handed him the Visa card and gave him back his $45 apology coupon.
So because he had refused to sell us the same computer the following day for the previous day's sale price of $450, we ended up paying $435.
