Charlie's computer was shot so after sharing mine for a couple of months, we finally broke down and went to Staples.

The HP Pavilion P6610F was on sale from $530 to $450 so we felt this was a great price and bought it.

Setting it up at home, I was jealous of its speed and Windows 7 capabilities so Charlie was nice enough to offer to buy me the same one.

Back we went to Staples today and the computer price was back up to $530. The sale was over yesterday! The floor associate wouldn't do a thing about it and I asked for the manager, who wouldn't do a thing about it either despite our telling him we had just bought the same one only yesterday.

He offered to let us know when it went on sale again. :(

Then he offered us a $45 "apology" coupon good on any future purchase for up to 90 days.

He took a bit too long in the back writing it up... so long that while he was gone we used the display laptop to go online and search out where else the computer was sold.

Voila! It was on sale at OfficeMax for $480 with free shipping.

The manager came back and handed me the coupon and I slipped it into my purse and then said, "Doesn't Staples offer Price Matching? Here is the same computer at Office Max!" He scrutinized the website and said he would match the price. :)

When checking out he said, "That'll be $501 with tax." I handed him the Visa card and gave him back his $45 apology coupon.

So because he had refused to sell us the same computer the following day for the previous day's sale price of $450, we ended up paying $435. :D

I would have LOVED to have seen that entire transaction!!!!:D:D:D You can bet if he sees you coming again he will be instantly GONE !!!:D:D:D

Thats a new twist on, "They seen ya comeing!"
I bought the same computer at costco about 3 weeks ago. $599.99s! So says theresa. I guess "They seen me comeing!"

You're good Barb - My Missus gets upset with me because I press for deals like that... says I'm "El Cheapo"; my son gets embarrassed when I ask for at least 10% senior citizen discount on a sale item... and usually get it!

Barb, Barb, Barb (shaking head) is that any way to treat your fellow man? Hey who is Charlie anyway? Good Job Girl, you get em...

I build my own, so I never have to deal with them people, lol. Most of the time those "inexpensive" bundles use a lesser quality power supply or drives that usually burn out shortly after the warranty is up. Of course these days any computer you buy is obsolete within a week after you bring it home!

What do you mean "Who is Charlie?" He is Barb's soulmate, her best friend, her life partner, the guy she stocks up all those staples in her pantry for. He made her an honest woman.
He's also the guy who fell of the ladder a few years ago and had about 300 screws put into his ankle-Barb was kind enough to show us the X-rays. :D
He also the guy who holds Barb purse when she gets her back up at places like Staples and Best Buy ;)

Hey - I was being nice to the Staples guy! I even gently patted him on his shoulder when he was bent over his own display laptop, reading the OfficeMax specs for the price match, and said, "See? Now you won't get into trouble with corporate."

Great Deal, Barb C.
I'm still researching for another computer.

congratulations Barb! I'm just a month into saddle breaking my laptop HP Pavilion dv6. It replaced an old steam-powered 'Iwill' minibox that was new with xp upgrade. I had to pay extra for the lumps of coal to keep it running.

got the router & a bunch of other stuff including extended warranty, Lojack & wireless mouse/keyboard & software for a tick under $900.
