Got a Shield Plus

I put Ameriglo night sights on my Shield Plus, and I'm happy to say it wasn't too difficult replacing them. I was an NYPD Armorer and S&W always installs their sight's with a Hydraulic Press and Red Loc-Tite's the rear sight set screw! I've changed the sights on numerous M&P's over the years and it was always quite a chore however my S&W Shield Plus sight's were extremely easy to change!

Thank you for that. I have been growing concerned after hearing nothing but horror stories about how difficult it is to remove the factory sights on the shield plus. I have a set of Ameriglo Hackathorn's for the Shield (SW-543) currently in the mail and cannot wait to get 'em installed on my new Shield Plus. It's all the gun needs IMO.

Where are you guys finding the Plus magazines?

Right now, nowhere. Competitive shooter Julie Golob, who's a paid "ambassador" for Smith & Wesson, put out a video a couple weeks ago to answer some questions she'd heard about the Shield Plus. In the video she acknowledged that there aren't any magazines available and said that Smith & Wesson is currently using all the magazines it has for Shield Plus production.

I saw a video on TFB which said that the magazines are made by Mec-Gar. If accurate, this is good news because Mec-Gar is a quality manufacturer of OEM magazines, but IIRC they're made in Italy... and with Covid and international shipping, that just adds another layer of delay.

The Shield Plus is a hot item right now. My guess is it'll be at least a few months before magazines become available (of course I could be wrong and I hope I am because I want some mags too!)

So they're stuck in the Suez Canal on that huge container ship. The Egyptians are holding the ship for ransom until the owners come up with a billion dollars to cover the costs involved. That explains everything. GARY.

I have been carrying the plus in a Crossbreed holster in the 5 o'clock position. When I sit in my vehicle it hits the magazine release. Has anyone else ran into this problem?

Good comments, glad I happened on this thread. My conclusions, as owner of an Shield 1.0:
1) My only real "complaint" about the 1.0 is grip is a tad too thin in girth. I solved that problem with a Pachmyr grip sleeve. I've had mixed experiences with palm swells, so I will have handle the Plus first.
2) I did not like the grip texture of the 2.0 - too rough. Not sure how I will feel about the Plus texture until I try it.
3) 7 or 8 rounds should be adequate for most social encounters, but of course, all things being equal, more rounds are always better
4) Based on some of the feedback above about stiff controls, sharp edges, etc., I'll wait a year for additional user experience. And for prices to stabilize. And for any "beta test" issues to surface.
5) I have a Glock 26. Equal number of rounds, roughly equal weight, slightly thicker, but shorter grip (good for concealed carry), and just as accurate and reliable. So not really sure I need a Plus.
Not trashing the Plus in any way; just not sure I need one. But time and "new toy-itis" will tell.
Thanks for the great and useful info on this new gun.

I'm hearing rumors that the Shield 1.0& 2.0 will be discontinued! Can anyone verify this?

With another 150 rnds down range the Plus continues to impress. The increased feel adds to the accuracy and control for this gun compared to my 2.0 PC. The full mag insertion continues to improve

Swapped my Shield 1.0 for the new Plus ported Perf Center version. Like everything about it except the slide release. It went from extremely difficult to impossible.

I bought my Shield Plus about a week ago. I have had two separate P-365s in the past and like everything about them, except the grip which just wasn't right for my larger hands.

I previously had a Shield 2,0 with integrated laser and liked it, but the magazine capacity just didn't do it for me.

I immediately liked the slightly thicker grip on the Plus, and after throwing a set of Talon grips over it I think it will be perfect.

I took my P-365, and my PLus to the range, and they also had a rental Ruger Max-9 there and I tried that out as well.

Shield Plus was the clear winner, more accurate, easier to shoot with lower recoil. The Max-9 came in second, it had only one problem, the same one I had with the LC9s pro, the trigger it too thin and the trigger safety bar pinches my trigger finger pad in it to the point of getting a blister.

Max-9 fit in my hand a lot better than the P-365 and I would take it over the P-365 except for the Shield Plus.

I'm giving up a little less weight in switching to the Sheild Plus, but it's negligible when considering the easier shooting more accuracy I am getting with the plus!

P-365 is now on consignment at my LGS!
