Got another Ruger LCP

Ruger does make good firearms. The only striker fired pistol I own is a Ruger Custom LCP, I carry it around the farm. I bought it because I could not find a good used PPK. It will be my only striker fired pistol.

All the LCPs I have seen are hammer fired, it's just buried well down in the slide/frame.

I have been wanting one for a while now. The only ones I see are LCP 2's.
Dealer told me they were an improved model..

How is the left handed clip working out for you?
I'm also a south paw and thinking about installing one.

I like it a good deal, though I should note that I only use it clipped in conjunction with a behind-the-trigger block (akin to the Saf-T-Blok). Also, since the mag release side of the gun is presented to the world in this configuration, I have to take some little bit of care not to inadvertently trip it by brushing against something during the day.

As much as I fancy myself a "revolver guy" the LCP is a great weapon for such a small package. Carry one often.

I shoot mine as well as my j-frames most days...of course they aren't as cool as j-frame though

All went well at the range. I put 50 rounds of cheap Tula steel cased ball and another 50 of mixed Winchester ball and Hydra Shoks. I had one failure to eject with the Tula early on, smooth sailing after that.

I normally don't shoot closer than 50 feet. I kept them on the silhouette, but barely. I reeled it in to 21 feet and left it there.

The ball shot low, or maybe it was me. The Hydra Shoks shot to point of aim.

I usually stick to ball in these little guns but for now I'll load with the Hydra Shoks.

I have had great results from Hornady 380 ACP Auto Ammo 90 Grain XTP in my LCPs. They are the perfect throw it in your pocket always carrying gun. They are accurate enough and easy enough to shoot at spitting distance. I love mine. It rides as a primary or as a BUG almost everyday.

Here in the 'Garden State' (NJ) getting handgun purchase permits is a real hassle, and we have to wait 30 days between each handgun unless we fill out additional paperwork - which I DON'T want to do. 1st I got an M&P 45 Shield - in time for the rebate. Next will be an LCP2 - which I'll pick up in a few weeks. Then a J-frame. I'm looking forward to the little .380!

Well, I couldn't find a purple one, so I had to settle for black. :( ;)

I looked at both the LCP2 and the old LCP and I didn't see enough to justify the difference in the price to me. The trigger was better, but this isn't to be a target gun, just a "GET OFF ME" gun. Something to slip into my pocket when I don't really want to carry a gun.

I was disappointed that they didn't have an extra magazine with it. Tighten up Ruger. Charge a few buck more if you have to.

I don't have any pictures but it looks just like the OP's.

In a race to the bottom people look at the initial price of ownership and by only including one mag they are able to keep these little guns moving. If you shop around you can get the 7 rounders for right around $20.

At their current price of under $200 they are a steal.

I had a LCP for several years, long enough it was in the original recall. It was always reliable. I recently handled a LCP2, and went out and bought one. The grip is enhanced and sits better in your hand, and the sights are improved considerably. Mostly the trigger reset is drastically improved and the trigger pull somewhat improved. After a couple boxes of ammo through the LCP2, I sold the original LCP.

I considered buying an LCP and gave both models a great deal of thought and examination in the LGS. I was turned off by the fact that the hammer seems to be in a cocked position at all times, not something I would be comfy with in my pocket.

Any comments about my concerns, please? Thanks in advance.

In the Mk1.5 version of the LCP Ruger changed the geometry of the operating system. As a result the hammer sits differently and it is partially cocked. When you pull the trigger it moves back quite a distance before the sear releases, so I reckon it is safe.

I live in a state that doesn't issue carry permits (NJ), but if I was worried about a 'cocked & unlocked' situation, I would just keep the chamber empty I know that means the need for two handed operation to make the gun usable, and the added time and thought needed, but that would solve the risk.

Had original lcp 7 years 1000 rounds no failures of any type.
Got the lcp2 and had failure to extract on sig ammo and ppu. Brass has small lip for extractor to grab the fired case. Four other brands worked fine. Lost confidence sold lcp2 and went back to first model.
Lcp2 hammer is cocked almost all the way back but has a 2nd notch for safety if hammer somehow was to fall. Per ruger

Mike

I have been carrying a LCP custom for summer time carry for 1 1/2 years and have never looked back.
