Ok it was Sunday morning and I haven't been out of the house much lately, I decided I was going to Gander Mountain. NormallyI don't expect much, but i was walking past the used guns and I saw a Chater Arms Bulldog. I thought well that is neat and then I look to the left of that and a nice Hi Power is sitting there.

So I asked to see the Browning and it was a Belgium made one nice blueing a little spot on the front of the frame but otherwise clean. So i took all the cash I had with me and put it on lay away until next weekend, so much for saving for the upcoming gunshow I found mine today.

Every once in awhile I get lucky out there.

I also bought my favorite magazine The Backwoodsman, lots of neat stuff in there.

Whooeee.. Whew... From the title, I was thinkin' you was gonna have to be explainin' somethin to the Missus about.... well never mind.

You may still have to explain the HP but that ain't quite so bad....;)

+1 about Backwoodsman.
Regarding Gander Mountain, I worked at one for years. I know how they are toward their employess so GM will never get another penny of my money.

I've gotten some very good deals on used guns at Gander. The last one was a 4" 66-2 with box and papers in excellent condition for $299

Must be the Ganders in NY dont comunicate about prices with the stores where you guys all are. I just went to Gander last weekend to get a treestand. $849 for a 4" 686??!! I paid $719 plus tax from my mom n pops dealer. USED 460 8-3/8", $1049. I see them brand new on GB for that, LGS has a used/exc cond 460 for $849. You would think a chain store would be at least a little bit competitive with the mom n pops LGS?? Its just a little depressing because I always like to see whats under the glass on the occasion I go there. But every time I browse the cases, it only re-affirms that I will likely NEVER buy a firearm from them, at least handguns anyway...

I bought another 9mm Browning High Power Pratical last week at my LGS. Paid 7 Benjamins OTD for it(sales tax here is 9%), but it had been fired, but the best I could tell, just a few rounds. I thought it was NIB until I stripped it down on the counter. Nice gun. I took it to the range and ran a couple of hundred rounds through it including the rounds I carry for SD. Not a hiccup. Nice gun for Fall, Spring and Winter carry.

It usually takes a lot to get lucky at Gander Mountain. Their prices are usually on the high side.

OTD mine will be about 675, so I was pretty happy I saw some Argentine HP for around the same at a different store so I figure for a nice Belgian one I didn't do to bad.

Many years ago, mid 1970's, I had a couple of Browning High Powers.

I still think they are one of the 3 best 9mm's on the Planet.
