So I picked up my 15-22 moe yesterday evening, took it out of the box and clipped on the primary arms micro red dot. I took It out to the desert to send a few rounds through it and my goodness what a blast this thing was. I shot about 50 rounds of some 15 year old super x I had in my closet and it didn't hiccup once. I got it to get more trigger time behind the AR platform without breaking the bank. It is much lighter than my AR 15 but I'm thinking about wrapping an ankle weight around the forend to add a little weight when I practice some cqc.

Just thought I would share my first impression of this weapon but also I wanted to ask what is the most you all are willing to pay per round for this elusive 22lr round. I haven't bought any in so long and will need to soon if this thing keeps functioning like it did.

I try getting it at my local shop for about 6-7$ for 50(12-14 cents a round), depending on brand. They limit us to 100 rounds unless they get the bulk packs in, though. I was in tonight, nothing but golden turds...

That said, since 100 rounds don't last long in a 15-22, I've branched out and found online sources like bulkammo.com and ammofast.com. you'll overpay, but they at least have some. I got 500 rounds of CCI mini-mags off of ammofast for about $100 shipped. So 20 cents a round is apparently my limit.

I got some CCI AR Tactical .22LR in boxes of 375 for $50 a few months ago at a shop near me. I thought it was a pretty good price, but I didn't do some crazy price comparisons. I like the ammo it runs great through my 15-22 and out of four boxes I only had one single bad round so far; the case was damaged so I didn't even load it.

You mentioned desert, I'm in the southern Nevada area and the shop I bought mine at had something like ten thousand rounds in stock. I'm due to pick up some more later this week. I was there last week and my 9mm ammo went down in price $6 per box so I'm hoping the .22 went down a bit too.

Come to Canada we got all the ammo. :p

Yikes! That's a lot more than I'm willing to pay. I think 8 or 9 cents per round and I still don't feel good about that. I bought an app on my phone that is supposed to alert me when ammo is available at a pre determined price per round. If it works good I'll let you all know for sure.

I can find 9mm and 5.56 everywhere but had no idea how bad the .22 situation was until I got this 15-22. I'm in Tucson Arizona and called every gun store I could think of today with no one having them in stock. How much are u all paying up in canada?

Check GunBot 22lr rimfire ammo, I don't see anything is stock for under 10 cents a round. I know I could get cheaper rounds, but I wanted mini-mags, darn it! Plus a good chunk of that $100 was shipping, which most of the online ammo stores don't add on until you go to check out, so the price listed isn't totally accurate to what your final cost is. It isn't cheap to ship a bunch of lead.

Watch the ammo thread here. Today I picked up 5000 rounds from Midway at .11 delivered. The cases are sold out but the 500 round bricks are still available. That is about the limit that I'll pay and at that price I have picked up several cases this year... mostly from gunbroker.com.

I shoot too much to worry about what ammo cost in the past. Just like I still fill up my truck with $3/gallon gas when I can remember when it cost less than a dollar. I don't drink, smoke or gamble, so my play money goes to shooting. Even at .11 each, that is still a fraction of what it would cost me to shoot my AR. A normal shoot for me is 350 rounds and do so once or twice a week. I just can't spend time buying a box of 100 or even a brick at a time.

I have been looking at midway and I see you can back order ammo so I'm thinking about getting on that soon. I have also been checking out gunbroker and backpage looking for deals. I usually use ammoseek.com to find ammo but the shipping cost are all so high. I'm thinking I'm gonna need to cough up a little more dough if I want to get out at least once a week.

Definitley keep an eye on Midway. (Notifications)

I really messed up on the 13th. Midway sent me a Notification that they had CCI Blazer in stock for $190/case 5k. I didn't even look at my email until nearly three hours after they sent it. It was on my iPhone the entire time in my pocket!!!!!!:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

I got the same notification CP. It was out of stock in less than 12 minutes; I got the notification at 4:08 local, and looked at 4:20. Sold out.

Probably had something to do with <$.04 / round....

I might have picked some up if I wasn't in my LGS submitting paperwork for my 300 BLK suppressor....

Does the 15-22 not chew those up very well? How about thunderbolt or whatever that stuff is called. I see it's not recommended but have u all had any luck with it?

They are hit and miss, or actually miss a little more than hit. I got tired of having unfortunate luck with them.

However, i've also had a little bad luck with CCI. I had a 375rd box that had a bunch of **** quality ammo within the box also. But aside from that box, i havent had any problems with the CCI.

My luck is better with the CCI. So now days its all i'm throwing down the pipe of my 15-22.

I have an old model 61 .22lr pump that i've been feeding the rest of the golden bullets to. It seems to eat them or anything else up without a problem. I guess they dont make weapons like they did back in the 50's. :D

I wouldnt even sell those to my worst enemy. They arent even worth the box they come in. Even if its the "new and improved" box.

Don't tell that to my 15-22. I just ran 200 GB's through it last night. Perfect. And fairly accurate too. Mine loves T-bolts and GB's.

I hope u cleaned it very thoroughly afterwards. They shoot dirtier than most other better brand .22lr. But i guess that should be obvious.

Accurate LMAO, shoot 1 GB then 1 CCI. U will see u've been lying to urself about accuracy.

I haven't shot them at longer than 25yd yet, but I've also shot CCI AR, MM, and Blazers. At short range they're a bit better, but not a ton. I'll post pics of the paper if you don't believe me. :D Dirty, for sure. But I keep it really clean so it's never been a problem.

I hear a lot of great things about these 15-22s chewing up 22lr ammo that other 22s won't stomach. I fully intend to run the worst of it all through mine to see what it will do. My only other 22 is an old marlin model 60 that is very picky, so this is a nice change of pace

Ammo

I would check the local shops if I were you. I found 525 of the Remington yesterday for $25 at a Dick's Sporting Goods by me (in NJ). That's only 4.76 a round. I know its not exactly the best, but my PC spits them out just the same. I talked to the guys there, found out what day is truck day, and then call that day to see if they got any in. With a limit of one per day, I'm going back in today to grab another brick before they run out. I check with 3 different spots between work and home and pick up what I can when I can. It's still much better than buying online with the crazy shipping charges.

We pay more for everything so you may think it's high but this is normal. But we have lots and lots of selections. CCI is the most expensive but it's the best.

How strict are the border folks with checking on ammo when coming back into the U.S. from Canada? I am not far from Canada and am planning on attending a silhouette competition up in Canada this year. Would I be allowed to bring some 22lr ammo back with me?
