Was pretty worried, ain't had one done in 5 years.

Smoke at least a pack a day for the past 50 years, live on fast food, TV dinners and stuff like that. Drink near a two liter of Pepsi a day. Plus the only real exercise I get is walking behind the grass cutting machine.

Had till April to get it done, but wanted to get it over with. Went last Friday to the blood place. Got the dreaded call from the doc's office Monday telling me he wanted to see me before my appointment in April. I went today.

Figured for sure I'd leave his office and go the the funeral home to make my arrangements.

Other than some not serious high cholesterol, I'm in most good shape. Put me on Lipitor, and told me to take something called Omega 3 and Fish oil. Said I should try to eat better too.

If I quit smoking I might could live to be 70, I'm 62 now.

I had mine done recently. Cholesterol a little high. Blood pressure a little high. But not bad enough to require medication. Quit smoking 20 years ago. I'm 63. I do go to the gym. Strength helps with the shooting.

We need to eat better, more water and exercise. Junk fatty food and soda packed me full of gallstones , whiskey and beer a half dead pancreas and diabetes . Got off my diet during the holidays and sugar shot up and eyesight started to blur again. Went back to wheat bread, salads and baked chicken and feeling better now. I have bloodwork every 6 mo. CT scan and Ultrasound once a year

Drug companies invented cholesterol and the drugs to control it.

I had a heart attack 20 years ago at the age of 45, plugged arteries. Smoked a carton of Marlboro Menthol cigarettes every week for 30 years. Had a horrible diet and a job that I hated.

My bad cholesterol was over 400 the first time it was ever checked after my heart attack. My doctor gave me all kinds of statins and they didn't help one bit.

I changed my diet, 50 grams of fat or less per day. Ate mostly off their suggested diet. LDL still over 400.

My doctor said, "one of two things, you're either lying to me or its hereditary".

It was way down last time they checked it and they still suggested I get back on some type if medication. They don't eve bother bringing it up anymore.

I wont take statins. Period.

They are hard on your liver and that's about the only organ I have left that hasn't been attacked by cancer.

Its never been proven that lowing your cholesterol levels will make you live longer.

Glad to hear it. I'm thinking that you'll be around for quite a while as I'm betting you've got the same longevity genes that your mom and dad do.

Going down to see them tomorrow, she asked me what I wanted to eat. Told her the same thing we have every time...dad's fresh caught fish deep fried with mashed potatoes, and green beans "out of a mason jar." Or breakfast, scrambled eggs, a pound of bacon, fried potatoes, and gravy and biscuits. Only time I get this is when their here in the winter, I ain't passing on it.

Mom's mom lived to be in her mid 90's, the last 15 years all she did was watch TV and eat candy and cake.

Mom's dad was never in a hospital till he was close to 80 when he fell down a hillside while putting a new fence post up, and broke his hip. The man would honestly eat the fat cut from meat, and always soaked up the grease in the frying pan with a piece of "light bread." I think he lived to be 90+.

Jan 2nd my blood pressure was 128 over 80. Today it was around 119 over 76 I think.

They always tell me I have the blood pressure of a teenager.

Y'all would never believe how much salt I put on everything.

I'm stopping that too.

Blood work?

Had a physical for the first time in over 20 years. What showed up? A PSA of 45. Normal is under 3.5 for my age 71.That's prostate specific andogin(sp) high PSA usually means prostate cancer. Biopsy followed, yep cancer. CAT scan, bone scan: negative. Prostate removed in June '19 now on luperin to lower testosterone before radiation in Feb. I encourage all men to DEMAND a PSA test with blood work. Some Dr's still believe it is not necessary Total BS, and incompetence! 1in 7 men will get prostate cancer in their lifetimes. Most common cancer after lung, are you smokers paying attention! The CAT & bone scan techs all spoke of some of their subjects coming in REEKING of nicotine. very depressing. It's poison,DUH!

Sorry about the cancer. :(

The best way to beat cancer is to have it detected early.

The longer one waits the harder its going to be for you to survive.

Cancer is ruthless. It has one goal and one goal only and that goal is to kill you.

blood work?

The greatest enemy of early detection of cancer is ignorance. Does either Larry King or Frank Thomas ever mention a PSA test? In both their adds for Nugenix or other prostate "snake oil" like remedies. Nope! Not once! Another TV Dr. pushing some magic pill for benign prostate enlargement A.K.A. BPE. !/2 a sentence about a PSA test, then on to how great his pills are to control frequent urination.
So Lame.
Family Jewels Foundation, Seattle Wa. area. Check out this one. Tragic! local 16 Y.O. finally diagnosed with testicular cancer. Had a lump for several years but was embarrassed to tell his parents. Falling down in extreme pain after high school track meet. Finally went to Dr. Too late, it had spread to pelvic bones ,lungs and spine. He died at 20 after surgeries and radiation. Again ignorance, 99% curable if detected early. Mother Nancy Balin started the foundation to fight ignorance.

Hope everything works out for you.

My doctor had them check for everything under the sun. My results were 6 pages long, with another 3 explaining stuff.

I was expecting high cholesterol, but was really sweating the PSA and white blood cell count.

I really lucked out.

Blood tests two days ago. PSA = 2.1 Blood sugar 109, a little high. Everything else was in the normal range.

One of my friends was found to have a certain protein in his blood that is the precursor to bone marrow cancer. Right now it will be periodic tests to see what happens. If it develops into cancer, he has the Stanford University Cancer Center in San Jose and the UCSF Cancer Center in San Francisco. As much as I dislike California, the San Francisco Bay Area has two of the best cancer treatment centers in the nation.
